Fisker to Re-launch Karma Post 2015
|   Tuesday, April 29, 2014
Fisker going bankrupt was major news last year, although their upgraded Karma was a huge talking point. So much so that the company found foreign investors, who now plan on getting the Karma back on track, post 2014. Chinese auto part giant The Wanxiang Corporation, invested close to £88 Million in Fisker, saving the firm from going bankrupt. They now plan on re-launching the Karma, with a few upgrades that are expected to surpass their last generation vehicle.

Fisker could also be launching an Estate variant based on their Karma, by 2016, while another entry level vehicle – rumored to be christened Atlantic - is currently being planned for an early 2017 launch. Looks like Fisker got a lot on their platter, although we need to see how they manage to execute these plans successfully.

Concept variants from Fisker were showcased at the New York Motor Show back in 2012, right before they started losing money and we could witness the return of some of their old designs too. The Fisker Atlantic would be a direct rival to BMW's 5 Series and this is not even its best feature. Expected to be powered by a completely electric drive train, this vehicle could sport a price tag close to £40,000, which is quite cheap as compared to their £80,000 Karma.

Penetrating mass markets are easier said than done and if you are new in this field, setting up store is the hardest part. Fisker needs to attract attention from local customers, before thinking on globalizing. If they bite into more than they chew, they could end up losing money again. The next generation Karma could be launched under a different brand name, as the company could be renamed under its new ownership.

Official announcements are yet to be made regarding this, although insiders are completely sure of the quality of vehicles that they will sell. There is no compromise with quality and the Karma is better than it ever was. Certain modifications are expected to their manufacturing and after sales units as well, as we expect Fisker to hire 200 people, to help with manufacturing.

A new headquarters need to be setup, before the Karma can head into mass production at Delaware. Management is bound to change and the firm is currently looking for a suitable candidate to fill in the spot of a CEO. Fisker will be giving priority to their old work force, before setting out to find new faces. The next generation Karma, will be powered by a turbo charged 2.0 liter petrol engine, along with two electric motors.

Total power displacements are in the range of 397 BHP, along with 959 ft lb of torque. This vehicle is capable of covering a total distance of 50 Miles, solely on electric power. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible within the 6.3 seconds mark, which is quite fast, even by super car standards. Top speed however, is limited to 125 MPH, which is quite the downside to a vehicle of this caliber.
