First Technical Details On Peugeot's 308 GTi Hot Hatch
|   Wednesday, July 08, 2015
Since the launch of the new Peugeot 308, the sport version was awaited with interest especially for the unique driving sensations. The challenge was accepted and dealt with: the most complete model in the range comes to meet a well-established customer segment.

To meet the demands of enthusiasts a team who shared the same principles and the same passion for performance was needed. The mission was entrusted by the French brand to the experts from Peugeot Sport, engineers with a remarkable experience obtained worldwide.

The representatives of Peugeot promise the launch of the long-awaited GTi hot hatch. Maxime Picat, Director General Peugeot, says that the 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport is a model expected by speed enthusiasts, given the fact that Peugeot has scored a few points in the history of sports competitions in the B and C segments.

Unlike an usual 308, the Peugeot 308 GTi has a lower ground clearance by 11 millimeters - down to 98 mm, the front area is dominated by the highly aggressive spoiler, while the rear boasts a sport air diffuser and an elegant aileron. All this, while ensuring that total weight does not pass 1205 kg.

Officials say that the new Peugeot 308 GTi will be available in six shades: Ultimate red, blue Magnetic, Perla Nera black, Pearl white, gray Arten and gray Hurricane.

And if many manufacturers have accustomed us with only one power version, the French want to be original here: Peugeot will offer the 1 6L THP S&S engine in two power versions, the first of which has 250 horsepower, while the second offers 270 horsepower. Torque is capped at 330 Nm in both cases, and resources will be put on the road via manual transmission with six reports.

The first version of power, Peugeot 308 GTi, will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (60 mph) in 6.2 seconds, while the 270 horsepower version will be faster by 0.2 seconds. It also means that that it can chew up the first 1000 meters in just 25.3 seconds. However, the 270 hp version will integrate a Torsen-type limited-slip differential with 380 mm front brake discs and 268 mm in the rear and Michelin Super Sport tires.

In addition to all that, the 1.6L THP S&S is the most efficient engine of its class with a CO2 emission level of 139 g/km and fuel consumption of 6.0 l/100km.
The interior has likewise received a number of sporting accents such as leather upholstery stitched with red thread on the steering wheel, seats, door panels and shift lever. Also, the gear lever benefits from Peugeot Sport logo attached to it, just like the metal pedals and clamshell sport seats.

Sales of the new Peugeot 308 GTi will start in autumn this year. The prices have not been disclosed yet, but some sources say that customers will have to fork out no less than 35,000 euro. In the end, one question remains unanswered: what does the Volkswagen Golf GTI think about this French offensive?
