First Official Sketches Of New Skoda Fabia Before Launch
|   Tuesday, August 12, 2014
Until the debut of the new Fabia generation, Skoda representatives have just revealed more information about its range of engines. The offer will include diesel as well as petrol engines, all complying with Euro 6 standards.

The Skoda Fabia will have seven engines according to Czech brand representatives. The subcompact model will only get models that comply with Euro 6 standards and will have an offer that includes three diesel powerplants and four petrol units.
The entry-level version will only be equipped with the 1.0 MPi three cylinders in-line aspirated engine, which will on be the lightest Fabia on offer, totaling only 980 kg.

The total weight reduction of the Fabia was performed by optimization applied to both the platform as well as by modifying the bodywork. The new generation is 90 millimeters wider and 30 millimeters shorter than the old one. The most powerful version of the Fabia will no longer be the RS version. The Czech carmaker dropped the performance version due to poor sales, meaning that Skoda will not offer more than 110 horsepower in this range.

The engine will provide entry-level power of 60 hp and will be accompanied by a five-speed manual transmission, while its bigger brothers will be powered by the 1.2 TSI unit, in different versions of power (85 hp -110 hp). The latter will be offered accompanied by a seven-speed DSG transmission. Regarding the diesel range, there will be only a 1.4 TDI three cylinders in-line propeller, which will be available in several versions of power.

2015 also brings the debut of the Fabia Greenline version, equipped with aerodynamic and mechanical enhancements, aiming to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It uses a 1.4-liter diesel engine rated at 75 hp, but has a lower ground clearance, low rolling resistance tires, and other aerodynamic changes, changes that bring about a combined consumption of 3.1 liters per 100 km.

Regarding the suspension of the new generation Fabia, those from Skoda used the same MacPherson configuration for the front axle and torsion bar for rear suspension, but applied a different geometry to provide superior handling and stability. The XDS+ electronic differential, first launched on the Volkswagen range for their Golf GTI, is expected to be part of the new Skoda Fabia facilities. This device will provide torque vectoring function, which improves traction in cornering by imperceptibly braking the inside wheels.

On an aesthetic level, the new Fabia loses the current generation lines and appears to favor first generation lines, produced until 2007, which was characterized in turn by angular lines. If the front grille is a clear adaptation of the small-scale lines that Skoda imposes in its range with the new Rapid, Octavia, Superb and Yeti, the optical blocks have a familiar shape and seem inspired by those on the VW Polo.

Levels of equipment are designed to closely resemble the current line promoted by the automaker, although naturally the latest technology available from the VW Group will be found. Therefore, we can see large touch screens, available in more expensive versions, with the Mirror Link system that is able to produce a clone of a smartphone's display.
