Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate joins the fourth generation of the German sedan model which completes the range with a hatch, devoted to those who are family oriented. Expected on the market this autumn, the new model is larger, more economical and lighter than the generation it replaces, and is driven by a range of new engines, exclusively Euro 6 units.

Developed on a new modular platform MRA, which in the near future will be the basis of the entire Mercedes range except the A and B Classes, the new C-Class Estate boasts substantial savings in weight and consumption.
The total weight decreased by 65 kg and consumption by 20 percent.

The outer dimensions have increased appreciably. The notable differences are visible for length (extra 96 mm), width (plus 40 mm) and wheelbase (plus 80 mm), with obvious advantages in terms of interior space. The boot is also bigger, the load capacity varying now between 490 liters and 1,510 liters. The modularity has been improved, now featuring electric assist seatback folding and an asymmetric 40/20/40 folding backrest. Another novelty is represented by the implementation of an electric opening function for the tailgate without touch, all with a simple translational motion of the foot under the rear bumper of the car.

An absolute premiere for the middle class will be the Airmatic air suspension, offered optionally for some engines. The strength of dampers will be adjusted in real time depending on the program selected: Comfort, Eco, Sport and Sport Plus. In addition, the new C-Class will also benefit from the automatic adjustment function of ground clearance, which will lower the car at cruising speeds for better aerodynamics.

The revolution continues inside, where the new C-Class will welcome the happy owners with high-class materials and a new Command system with a display of 8.4 inches, complete with a touchpad acting as a controller. The new multimedia system brings a unique valet type function. Part of the package Connect Me, it allows starting or remote programming the climate control and checking the fuel tank.

At the onset, there will be four engines, two petrol and two diesel, all meeting the Euro 6 standard and equipped with start & stop function. They are the C220 Bluetec (2.1-liter diesel four-cylinder, 170 hp and 400 Nm), C180 (1.6-liter petrol turbo four-cylinder, 156 hp and 250 Nm), C200 (1.9-liter petrol four-cylinder, 184 hp and 300 Nm), C200 Bluetec (recalibrated version of the 204 hp 2.1-liter diesel unit for 170 hp).

Later, the following versions will be available: C160 and C180 Bluetec (1.6-liter diesel in two power levels, 115 and 136 hp), C300 Bluetec Hybrid (diesel-electric hybrid that combines a 2.1-liter engine with 204 hp with a 27 hp electric unit), C350 Bluetec hybrid (diesel-electric hybrid, which combines a petrol engine of 211 hp with a 68 hp electric unit).

All four-cylinder versions of the Mercedes Benz C-Class will be coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, completely new, and the optional 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox with seven steps can be optionally ordered. A new 9-speed automatic transmission will be available in 2015.
