First Look at New 2018 Renault Megane RS
|   Wednesday, August 09, 2017
We still have some time until the official presentation of the new Megane RS but fortunately we will not have to wait until the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show to see the long-awaited hatchback proposed by Renault.

This is possible due to protected images published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in which the model is presented, at least in terms of bodywork, from all angles without a camouflage.

As we expected, the new 2018 Renault Megane RS adopts a slightly more aggressive picture compared to the Megane GT.
The design fits perfectly with the images we already know through the profiles of the major publications: large air vents on the front, exclusive rims and a generous, trapezoidal form of the central exhaust pipe, flanked by vertical lines of the air diffusers.

Of course, there are novelties, some easy to discover in these pictures. For example, the headlights are slightly different in terms of graphics than other Megane models.

The same thing happens in the case of stoplights, slightly different and ending with a bumper equipped with two side outlets. At the same time, we can see the new LED fog lights, thought about the same as those on the Clio RS.

The images are not accompanied by new car details, but Renault officials have already talked about them.
The car will be available with both manual and automatic transmission with dual-clutch, both propelling the front wheels. What power we talking about? Rumors says about 300 horsepower, whether it's from an Alpine A110, with a displacement of 1.8 liters, or an engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters.

The hottest variant of the current Megane RS, the 275 Cup S, going from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 sec. The next Megane will certainly cut several tenths of a second off that time, making it faster than even the Honda Civic Type R which needs about 5.7 seconds, and getting close to the four-wheel-drive Audi S3 which needs 5.2 seconds.

Renault has also confirmed the presence on this model of the steering control system on all four wheels, 4Control, but also an option between two types of chassis, Sport or Cup.

According to specialists, it seems that the model we were talking about a little earlier, Megane GT, will also go through some changes. It gets about the same headlights and taillights on the RS, but also a more aggressive front bumper with larger air intakes than the current version. It seems a bit early for a modified version, but Renault may try to make the new GT and RS models a common standard that differentiates itself from the normal Megane cars.

Overall, the pictures confirm that the upcoming model will only a bit more aggressive than the regular Megane range, confirming the comments made for Autocar by Stephane Janin, brand design boss, earlier this year.

“Our brand is not about aggressivity,” he said. “We try to have a powerful product but rather simple with sensual shapes. That's what we tried to make with the next RS, which is actually harder than going aggressive I think. To find the right balance is harder but I think we have done it.”
