First Drive - The Mercedes Benz E220 CDI AMG Sport Coupe
|   Tuesday, August 06, 2013
The revised Mercedes Benz E220 CDI AMG Sport Coupe is a distinctive model from Mercedes Benz and is quite controversial owing to the increase in costs and the general effort behind the vehicle. The E Class is one of the biggest vehicles in all of Europe, not just due to its interior space, but also due to the price bracket within which this vehicle falls.

Mercedes Benz is quite experienced when it comes to manufacturing coupes and this four seated two door coupe is one of the most competitive in the market today.
The BMW 4 Series and the Audi A5 are decent rivals while the 6 Series is not quite affordable. With Mercedes Benz updating the E Class, the E220 CDI AMG Sport Coupe has an all new exterior and interior lined with a host of mechanical changes.

New headlamps, bumpers and side body panels have been added which enhance the way this car looks. This car may seem quite compact although it does share similarities with its bigger cousins. Driving this vehicle is a whole new feeling and the transmission has a big role to play in general. The car feels smooth and refined while gear shifts feel relaxed.

Even though this vehicle is quite notorious for its top speed, it does not feel menacing on road. However, only once the pedal is floored does this car feel aggressive. Powered by a 168 BHP displacing 2.1 liter turbo diesel V6 and V8 engine, power delivery can be muffled. A 2.0 liter turbo charged engine displacing 181 BHP is also on the cards and this is expected to capture a major chunk of the European car market.

The four cylinder diesel engine powering this vehicle is not special as it has been lifted directly from previous models. This vehicle is excellent for travelling and could be taken to work. Fuel efficiency is quite high and this is the primary reason for this vehicle commanding demand in the market. The ride is quite comfortable even when driving over uneven surfaces which enhances the general drive feel in general.

The vehicle steers quite well while the AMG Sports modification gives this car a whole new dynamical edge over its competitors. Although poor driving conditions are not that great for this vehicle to drive on, this car still does a decent job nonetheless. Mercedes Benz claims that the E220 CDI AMG Sports Coupe has a top speed of 145 MPH with fuel economy close to 58.9 MPG. CO2 emission has been limited to 129 g/km while the car weighs approximately 1715 kg.

Therefore, these statistics prove exactly what the car is capable of. In general, the E220 CDI is a powerful vehicle and the seven speed 7G Tronic transmission system works well with the engine. The shifts are periodic and well balanced and offer power at optimum stages such as the low, mid and top range. The additional Dynamic Handling Package on the car is also one of the best additions Mercedes Benz has made to the E220.
