Fiat Tipo - The New Italian Compact Sedan
|   Tuesday, October 20, 2015
The Italians from Fiat are trying to emulate the success that Dacia had until this year, and will launch three low-cost models in different classes. One of them will be sold under the Fiat Tipo name, which was being kicked in the 90s, and is to be resuscitated on a concept recently introduced in a show in Turkey. But the Fiat launches its cheapest cars in a period where Dacia has a wavering trend in Europe.

Fiat Tipo was appointed the competitor for Dacia's Logan, the Citroen C-Elysee and Peugeot 301.
The model is a sedan designed at the Turkish-Italian center from Bursa and manufactured at Tofas plant in Turkey. The hatchback and station wagon that will replace the Bravo and Croma will be presented in March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Compared to other cars that Italians have in this range, Tipo will be a low-cost model. It start from a price of 12,000 euros. This means it will cost, how much the most expensive Logan. Without the option, the car produced at Mioveni will continue to be a few thousand euros cheaper than the model from Fiat.

The new Tipo, which received its name from a car the Italians have pulled out of production in the mid 90s, will be released next month on the Turkish market. In December, it will come out on the Italian market, and by next year it will be available in Europe, as well as in Africa and the Middle East. These are exactly the markets where Dacia was successful too.

Competition between Fiat and the Romanian brand owned by Renault will intensify when the Italian giant will launch two models at reduced prices, a hatchback that will compete with Sandero and a sedan break that will beat Logan MCV.

But Fiat launches its cheapest cars in Europe at a time when Europeans started to buy expensive cars again, which can be seen in Dacia's businesses.
In the first nine months, Dacia sales in France, its largest market, went down by 5.7 percent, while in Germany, the second largest market, they fell by 8.1 percent. These decreases are partially compensated by the surge of the automotive market in Romania, but perhaps Renault is already thinking about a B plan for the Romanian brand.

The Italians will offer engines that will provide between 95 and 120 hp in the Tipo range, two petrol engines and two diesel powered units being available . For the first time the models available in this segment will be offered with optional dual-clutch transmission.

Fiat Tipo will have be 4.51 meters long, 1.78 meters wide and 1.48 meters high. Thus, we are talking about a car that is 17 centimeters longer than the Logan 2, five centimeters wideer and 2 centimeters shorter.

Wheelbase differs by only one centimeter in favor of the Tipo. In other words, the Italian model is at the lower limit of the compact segment, surpassing the threshold for smaller class.

Tipo's trunk will be 510 liters, as big as a Dacia Logan's, but higher than the Peugeot 301 and Citroen C-Elysee.
Fiat Group collaborates with the Turks from KoƧ Holding since 1968, when they signed a strategic joint venture. In their honor the development project of the new compact sedan from Fiat has been called Aegea.
