Fiat Prepares Return Of Bravo And Punto Models, But Launches The 500X Until Then
|   Friday, May 09, 2014
Fiat has made public the plans for the coming years which include unveiling a number of models that will see the light of day in the next four years. The Italian carmaker has decided to divide its range into two parts, trying to reach a different audience with different expectations and different financial possibilities.

The Fiat range will include a line of affordable models, addressed to the pragmatic buyer, and an aspirational model line, with an emotional design.
Thus, the first line will have at its center the Fiat Panda model. The second line will be based on the Fiat 500 model.

Regarding a line of affordable models for the customers who are looking for practical vehicles, Fiat will launch a compact sedan in 2015, followed by two variants: a hatchback and a station wagon model. The Hatchback will take the place of the ancient Bravo model, trying to bring the Fiat brand in the compact segment, an increasingly disputed segment.

The Italian manufacturer returns in the B segment too, where the Fiat Punto model needs a new generation. The range will be complemented in 2017 by a compact crossover, most likely a replacement for the Sedici model. Furthermore, the little Panda was delayed, its new generation will have its debut only in 2018.

On the other hand, the emotional model line will include in the near future the 500X crossover based on the platform of the Jeep Renegade, but available with five doors and a system to improve adherence. Besides this crossover, there will be a special model in 2015, most likely the roadster developed by Fiat together with Mazda. The two models will be exported overseas on the United States market too.

The basic architecture of the Fiat 500X will be shared with the recently unveiled Jeep Renegade. In Europe, the X will be offered with a 0.9 liter two-cylinder TwinAir engine, a 1.4 liters MultiAir, and a 1.3 liters MultiJet turbodiesel. It remains to be seen if the same units will be offered in the United States, however many agree that the 1.4-liter and 2.4-liter motorization of the Renegade seem likely candidates. Also, at least one of the engine choices will be seen on a new Chrysler mated to an automatic transmission with nine speeds.

The 500X is a twin to the 2015 Jeep Renegada, therefore both vehicles will be sharing the production line at Fiat's factory from Melfi in Italy. It will be approximately 4.17 m (13.7 feet) in length, making it the largest 500 in its range. We can expect both front- and all-wheel-drive versions. To the Fiat 500 family, the 500X will be the sixth addition, joining the 500 hatch, 500c convertible, 500L MPV, 500 Abarth sports model, and 500e electric car.

The debut will take place in early 2015 and sales are expected to start in the fall same year.

At this point, the price is pretty much a mystery, but common sense indicates the Fiat 500X could be priced around the mark of 20,000 dollars (or about 14-15,000 euros).

This strategy exposed by Sergio Marchionne, it should help Fiat to achieve an increase in sales forecasted to reach 1.9 million units per year by 2019. Last year, Fiat Group sold only 1.3 million vehicles.
