Ferrari's Enzo Replacement Is Almost Ready
|   Tuesday, June 12, 2012
Few can argue against the qualities of the Enzo, a car that represents the embodiment of the Prancing Horse spirit. Alas, every good thing has an ending and the Enzo is nearing on it. Car And Driver has got its hands on a few spyshots that indicate how the successor car will look like. Of course, a few tweaks are to be expected, but the final aspect should be very close to current images.

Now, we are all aware that Pininfarina usually works closely with Ferrari for its car designs.
It seems that the Enzo's successor is a 100 percent Ferrari design; the shops in Maranello get all the credit, starting with the renowned designer Flavio Manzoni. Pessimists have already been thinking that is the first step in ending the long relationship between the two companies, but we don't think so. We prefer to think this is the exception that confirms the rule.

The way the cars look seems to indicate a mix between Jim Glickenhaus's Enzo inspired P4/5 and subsequent P4/5 Competizione and the Millechili concept from 2010. That is many describe the new F70 to be. The F70 is the internal name under which the car is known.

Needless to say, this means the car looks stunning, easily overtaking the Enzo in this department. The body and chassis will be carbon fiber allowing for reduced weight (but expect the price tag to leave you gasping for air). 2650 pounds is what the F70 should weight, as opposed to the 3300 the Enzo has. The principles behind it are based on the so-called "three arc" philosophy. What does that mean?

The front arc has the smallest diameter, while the middle arc, the one with the greenhouse, is the largest. The rear arc occupies the middle position, being a bit larger than the front one. It also ends in an abrupt fashion, leading some to think the Pagani Zonda was the source of inspiration. As usual, only 2 people will be accommodated. They will rest in a forward-mounted, glass-heavy cabin supported by carbon fiber pillars; this provides a neat view of nearly 360 degrees. It is almost a certainty that the abrupt rear fascia will be left open, again in similar fashion to what the Zonda has.

Active and passive body features will give the car excellent aerodynamic performances; the large, integrated rear wing is a good testimony for the active ones while the passive chapter is illustrated by the arcs with their decisive forms, recessed-intakes and airflow passages. Furthermore, the headlight surrounds have been specially designed to allow air to past and through the normally obstructing front fascia.

Other than that, the car is rumored to boast 920 horsepower from a V12 engine. The F70 will supposedly feature hybrid components to increase the not-so-generous fuel efficiency figures supercars have. If you are familiar with the F1 KERS system, you know what is most likely to go on the F70. Amedeo Felisa is behind all the technicalities.

Well, by the end of the year we will know for sure the exact specifications of the F70. Note, F70 is not the official name.
