Ferrari Set to Reveal Twin Turbocharged California T Convertible
|   Sunday, February 16, 2014
Ferrari makes a strong comeback with its turbo charged California T convertible. This vehicle will be introduced to their primary lineup and should go on sale soon. Official news confirms launch plans at Geneva next month. Hence, expect more news in the coming months. Power comes from a twin turbo charged 3.8 liter V8 engine displacing 552 BHP at 7,500 RPM, along with torque displacements of 557 ft lb.

This vehicle is capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within 3.
seconds, while sporting top speeds of 196 MPH. Even though these improvements are marginal when compared to their current generation variant, slight differences can be felt while driving. Fuel consumption has been reduced by over 15 percent as compared to its predecessor, which returns close to 27 MPG on a combined scale. CO2 emissions have been reduced to 250 g/km, with additional stop / start system taking care of decent fuel efficiency.

An upgraded exhaust manifold along with a new crankshaft takes care of refinement, while Ferrari claims that this vehicle is more potent than ever before. Insiders claim greater exhaust note than before, which gives this vehicle a more aggressive appeal and spy photographers say that this vehicle sounds better than their current generation California.

Carbon ceramic brakes have been added to this machine, enhancing stopping potential and this vehicle decelerates from 60 – 0 MPH within 34 meters. An upgraded suspension system along with new springs and steering damper has been added to enhance general ride ability, while the latest dampers from Magnaride, are said to work better by 50 percent. Ferrari is claiming enhanced handling on their California, even though this vehicle weighs close to 1625 kg.

Throttle response has enhanced, which makes it quick off the line. Optional light weight equipments are also on offer, which enhances general performance. Exterior wise, the new California maintains its characteristic appeal, even though a considerable amount of design cues have been borrowed from their FF and F12 platforms. Their characteristic hard top roof is intact, which retracts completely within 14 seconds.

Numerous interior modifications have been made, such as an all new 6.5 inch touch screen, controlling every infotainment option present in the vehicle. Ferrari has also added an exclusive Turbo Performance Engineer, which is a separately controlled screen, showing every engine detail data at all times. Launch Control and Race Modes are showcased separately, while separate buttons for every control is provided neatly and within easy reach. Bookings are expected to start soon, just after the Geneva Motor Show, while deliveries should start by mid 2014.

Ferrari has launched this 3.8 liter twin turbo charged engine, as part of its plans to invest Two Billion Euros into the company before 2018. Hence, expect a new lineup of engines and vehicles very soon. Maserati's Ghibli and Quattroporte have already received new engine options, while Ferrari is currently working on quite a few engine options, which are expected to launch soon. Ferrari's last turbo charged vehicle – the F40 – entered production back in 1987, while naturally aspirated engines have been used since.
