Ferrari F12 Tour de France: Special Edition Which Is Not Dedicated To The Famous Cycling Race
|   Monday, October 19, 2015
Ferrari launches a special edition of the current F12 Berlinetta. Although you might be tempted to think that Ferrari has just associated the name with the most popular cycling race in the world, F12 Berlinetta Tour de France is really a tribute to the endurance competition with the same title (conducted between 1899 and 1986). This competition was dominated by Ferrari in the 50s and 60s, with the 250GT Berlinetta model being the winner of five consecutive races.

A few months ago a number of spy images with a more potent Ferrari F12 Berlinetta version appeared on the Internet. Rumors about the hardcore Italian model emerged long before, and this led to a series of speculations on the names Ferrari prepared.

Some say they named it GTO and others Speciale, but those from Ferrari have shed some light: the more aggressive version will be called TDF (Tour de France).
Using the same 6 liter V12 engine, Ferrari's engineers have managed to give the new F12tdf (as it is abbreviated) a total of 780 horsepower at 8,500 rpm. That means 40 horsepower and 15 Nm more than the standard version. Also, torque has increased from 690 Nm to 705 Nm, delivered at 6750 rpm. It is managed by a F1 DCT unit, with multiple enhancements: it now has 6 percent shorter steps, can be relegated to be 40 percent faster, and can also climb the steps 30 percent faster.

With such a technology package, it's no surprise that the F12tdf manages to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.9 seconds and 0 to 200 km / h in just 7.9 seconds. Maximum speed stops at 340 km / h.

The impressive figures would not have been possible without substantially reducing the total weight. The intensive use of carbon fiber has made the F12tdf weigh 110 kg less than the standard version.

The list of changes does not stop here; Ferrari claims it has an active rear axle. Virtual Short Wheelbase, calculates the angle to veering the rear wheels, depending on the direction and the ideal trajectory in order to increase maneuverability.

On an external level, the F12tdf Ferrari uses an outstanding rear spoiler (60 mm longer and 30 mm higher than the standard), a rear deflector, a more inclined rear window and a slightly concave trunk door. Also, the Italians opted for a set of wheels that can accommodate tires with a width of 275 mm.
Thanks to the external changes, the aerodynamic efficiency has been improved massively. All these changes were studied in the wind tunnel to help the new F12tdf benefit from improved efficiency by as much as 100 percent.

At 200 km / h, the downforce is 230 kg in the case of the new F12tdf compared to only 107 kg in the case of the standard model.
No details are given about the price, but it will be one measure of exclusivity, since the F12tdf will be available in only 799 copies worldwide.
As expected, the Ferrari test drivers went to take the new F12tdf on the Fiorano circuit and managed to complete a lap on the Italian asphalt in one minute and 21 seconds.
