Ferrari Designs the Next Generation of Automobiles, Christened As LaFerrari
|   Wednesday, May 07, 2014
Ferrari is known to have created quite a few fascinating vehicles throughout its tenure, although their LaFerrari surely takes the cake. Designed to compete with the likes of Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1, this vehicle has what it takes to be a benchmark product. You can compare these vehicles on multiple platforms, but performance is the first parameter that comes to our mind, every time we hear the term ‘Supercar'.

LaFerrari beats all in terms of more efficient power to weight ratio, as it displaces a whopping 950 BHP, while weighing less than its competitors.
Figuratively this is quite prestigious, although in practice, it is just as efficient. Take this vehicle for a spin around a race track and you will realize its true potential. LaFerrai is truly, the brand's most iconic and efficient vehicle, beating the likes of F50, F40, Enzo and even 288 GTO.

Weight has been kept to a bare minimum, with the use of reinforced carbon fiber and plastic, as well as aluminum and other light weight metals. Two carbon fiber seats have been placed up front, behind which sits a naturally aspirated 6262 cc V12 engine block, capable of displacing 790 BHP at 9,000 RPM, along with 516 ft lb of torque at 6,750 RPM.

These power figures alone are sufficiently greater than Ferrari's 1995 V12 Scuderia, which was a benchmark in its time. Behind the seats, is a lithium ion battery, along with an electric motor weighing 60 kg 25.7 kg respectively, which is capable of displacing 160 BHP along with 199 ft lb of torque. This allows a total power displacement of 950 BHP, along with 715 ft lb of torque. Unlike McLaren or Porsche, Ferrari has designed every aspect of this vehicle to aide performance.

This is an aerodynamic beauty, much like the P1 and has spent a considerable amount of time under the wind tunnel. The unique aspect about this hybrid technology is that, there is no actual eco mode. Hence, this vehicle cannot travel solely on electric power. However, what Ferrari has done is harvested additional energy from its ABS system, brakes, electronic differential and traction control - via a technology they call Hy-KERS - which helps recharge the battery on the move.

Power is delivered to its rear wheels via a dual clutch seven speed automated transmission system. A dedicated gear set transmits power directly to its final drive, which reduces the need for a vast clutch. Electronic driver aides play a major role in LaFerrari's handling, while radical down force generation keeps this vehicle grounded at high speeds.

A maximum of 360 kg is produced around 124 MPH, while minimum figures are close to 90 kg at 124 MPH on a straight. Carbon ceramic brakes further keep weight in check, while enhancing stopping potential, inducing confidence into a driver. The low slung seating position provides great comfort, along with a grand view up front. Steering is precise and well balanced and is perfectly suited for Formula One style driving experience.
