Ferrari Brings in Fresh Competition to the Convertible Segment with the 458 Italia Spider

The Ferrari 458 Italia is a car for people who like to own the latest trend in the market. This vehicles set up a style statement on its own while providing a rich drive experience. The 458 Italia is a loud and powerful machine which screams for attention on road and considering the fact that it is a Ferrari, the car gets a lot too.

The 458 Spider is the first vehicle in the Maranello lineup with a mid engine placement. This convertible gets a folding aluminum roof which is 25 kg lighter than the cloth roof placed on the F430 Spider.
This is a better proposition and the electric motor also helps the installation and removal of the roof. The aerodynamics of the car have not been affected much and this is one of the primary reasons for the new modification.

The rearranged deck over ensures that there is no glass cover over the engine while the air intakes are located close to the B Pillar. This gives the vehicle a whole new design while the rear end of the vehicle looks completely different. The effective damper controls on the Spider are greater than the coupe and this is a major reason for the effectiveness of the Spider.

The exhaust has also been modified and this gives a general deep feel to the car. The anti roll cage is also beneficial for the safety and Ferrari has left no stone unturned in any quarter of this car. Road grip has enhanced by a margin and this is great around corners. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible under 3.4 seconds.

However, the Spider is just 4 seconds slower than the coupe and considering the fact that you get to ride topless, this should not pose much of a difficulty while choosing. The roofless experience is however completely different from that of the coupe and hence performance is not all the matter every time. The noise of the V8 engine is loud enough to set up the mood inside the cabin although the refinement level inside is quite high.

The general drive dynamics is quite varied from that of the coupe and this gives the 458 Italia Spider a class of its own. The stiffness of the chassis, the additional torsion rigidity, camber support etc enhances the general drive feel and this affects the way the Spider handles in an effective manner. Body roll is completely absent while cornering is easier due to the additional traction settings. Specific track settings change the general feel of the Spider on track and the differences can be felt every moment.

The additional motor operated roof is a benefit and although the general aerodynamics suffer a bit due to the design, the general feel of the vehicle is not marred and this puts this car in a position which makes it highly competitive in the market. Convertibles are a rage in America and Europe and the 458 Italia Spider is a potential competitor.
