Fastest Electric Car In The World Detroit Electric SP: 01 Confirmed For production
|   Thursday, July 10, 2014
The Detroit Electric SP 01, the fastest electric car in the world as the U.S. company representatives say, has received the green light for production and will be built in Great Britain.

Representatives of the American brand have announced the completion of a factory in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, where the electric model will be produced. This model will be marketed in Europe, Asia, and the United States.

Initially, the electric model was supposed to be produced in Detroit, but it seems that the model will be built closer to the origin of the platform taken from Lotus.
The Detroit Electric SP: 01 will be based on the Lotus Exige and will have a mid-mounted electric motor that makes 150 kw (201 hp) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque.

According to Detroit Electric CEO Albert Lam, "While Detroit was our preferred initial assembly location, the regulatory process for the production and sale of the SP: 01 in the US has taken longer then (sic) expected. That means the assembly operations have to be located in Europe to allow us to bring the vehicle to market globally in line with our timing plans."

Its creators say that we are talking about the fastest series built electric car, the SP: 01, being able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km / h (155 mph). Only 999 units of the SP:01 will be built and sold worldwide.

Its bodywork is made of carbon fiber, which results in a mass of only 1067 kg, just as brand representatives announced in an earlier statement. At that time, the model was presented with a 37 kWh battery, which provided a range of over 300 kilometers.

The battery model can be recharged in just four hours and with the help of regenerative braking it can conserve kinetic energy normally lost during braking by storing it in the lithium-ion.

Unlike the previous model, those from Detroit Electric say this one will have a new design to be approved for production. In the first part of last year, Detroit Electric had a working prototype, which they said will eventually be produced in the latter part of that year at a plant in the United States. Now we know otherwise.
If the electric model will be successful, the company will introduce a sedan and a four-seat supercar, but the latter will be developed and built in Detroit.

The current Detroit Electric company doesn't share with the old "Detroit Electric" anything besides the name that announces the main product of the company. The first company Detroit Electric was a manufacturer of electric cars whose activity ended in the first part of the 20th century because of poor sales. It built about 13,000 vehicles.

Anderson Electric Car Company produced in Detroit, Michigan, the Detroit Electric which was an electric car. The company was established in 1907 and died in the year 1939. Thomas Edison, Mamie Eisenhower, John D. Rockefeller Jr. and Clara Ford, the wife of Henry Ford, were notable customers for the company. The brand revived in 2008 with the objective to produce modern all-electric cars.
