Explorers Rejoice! Introducing the Toyota FT-4X Concept
|   Thursday, June 08, 2017
At the New York Motor Show, the new Toyota FT-4X concept was unveiled. This concept prefaces a future compact SUV designed to tackle Jeep Renegade's niche. The ingredients will be similar to Renegade - compact size, practical in urban environment and a mechanical all-wheel drive system as befitting true all-terrain cars!

Overall, it's not a simple crossover, but an SUV that incorporates the 60-year tradition of legendary Toyota all-terrain cars.
The Toyota FT-4X concept is built on the global TNGA platform on which the Prius and C-HR models are built, measuring 4,249 mm in length, 1,821 mm in width, 1,623 mm in height and a 2,639 mm wheelbase.

Designed by Calty designers, a design studio in California, the FT-4X concept is reminiscent of the legendary FJ40, but also the popular model in the US, FJ Cruiser. Designed for modern young buyers, the FT-4X is a car that will make escapades in nature an extremely desirable exercise, and the SUV itself will always be prepared for such escapades, with lots of elements that will turn nature trips into a real pleasure.

For example, the interior door handles are detachable and represent water containers, and the interior lights on the ceiling can be dismantled and used as a flashlight. The audio system can also be removed and used in nature.
The digital dashboard can also be backed up with a secure smartphone at the top of the dashboard, and thanks to the applications, the smartphone turns into a navigation system. The armrest is also detachable and turns into a sleeping bag!

Moreover, all the handles are very large and comfortable and the tailgate can be opened in two ways - upwards or by parts. In the two halves of the tailgate there are compartments for storing food - one cold and one hot.
The luggage compartment is extremely practical and is covered with a protective layer. According to Toyota, when you fold the rear seat, you can sleep in the trunk, and in order to connect more with nature, two vertical panels of the body can be dismantled, forming openings on both sides of the trunk. These panels can be both in bodywork color, as well as from glass.

A GoPro Hero5 Session video camera framed by the driver's rearview mirror body will capture journeys on rugged terrain.
The name of the concept, FT-4X, comes from the Future Toyota Four-Wheel Drive Crossover.

Like the C-HR, Prius, Camry and the new generation Corolla, this new crossover could be build on Toyota's next-generation architecture, which means the car can be produced even in the United States as soon as the1.3 billion dollars improvements to the Kentucky plant will be completed.

The people at Toyota have been very clear up to now: the FT-4X is, for the time being, just a concept. The company imagines the model as propelled by a small but powerful four-cylinder engine that offers enough power to engage a 4X4 system with a selection of distribution on the drive wheels.
