Enhancements For Aston Martin Vanquish and Rapide S: Revised Suspension, 8-speed ZF Box And new Interior
|   Saturday, August 16, 2014
Aston Martin has officially announced that the Vanquish models (Coupe and Volante) and Rapide S will offer to customers a new type of automatic transmission, more powerful than the previous one.
The automatic transmission with six gears on Aston Martin models goes out of the picture, beginning this fall.

Signed by ZF, the new gearbox receives eight gears and significantly improves both performance and consumption of Aston Martin's models.
The name under which it will be known in the nomenclature of Aston options is Touchtronic III.

Compared with the old automatic transmission on these models - one with only six reports, and which have over 8 years of market career, the new gearbox manages to improve performance of the Aston models. Thus, the Aston Martin Vanquish sees an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.8 seconds, while the Rapide S needs 4.4 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h.

In both cases, progress is 0.5 seconds compared to the previous automatic version. In addition, with this occasion the Vanquish becomes the fastest Aston Martin series production in the company's 101-year history.

Also, the fuel consumption and emission figures have been modified. Improvement is about 10 percent, so that the Vanquish now displays an average consumption of 12.8 liters / 100 km, while the Rapide S comes with 12.9 liters / 100 km.

Changes to the gearbox and final drive ratios allow the cars to be not only faster, but also achieve lower CO2 emissions. In both sports cars the CO2 figure drops by an average of ten percent, down to 298 g / km for the Vanquish, and 300 g / km for Rapide S.

In addition to the gearbox related changes, the V12 engine, displacing 5.9 liters and which is 10 years old, and found under the hoods of the two models, was also improved. It receives three extra horsepower on Vanquish (now 576 hp), and the Rapide S (now 560 hp), and maximum torque on both models has increased by 10 Nm up to 630 Nm.

Changes to the two models don't stop here however. The engineers at Aston Martin have announced a modified DSC system to work perfectly with the new gearbox, more rigid suspensions for the Vanquish, big front brakes for the Rapide S, plus a number of additional aesthetic elements that can be ordered from catalog, starting this fall: 10-spoke alloy wheels, new colors (default Diavolo Red paint first seen on the V12 Zagato), new textures for the chairs, and additional options for indoor environments.

"More bold and dynamic interior and exterior treatments are the perfect offering for customers of the latest models. It is, of course, possible to add more color to our cars while maintaining Aston Martin's reputation for elegance and beauty, and I'm very happy to see this enhanced and extended colour palette offered to our loyal customers around the world" stated Marek Reichman, Director of Design.
