Elemental RP1 is a jaw dropping piece of beauty

Elemental RP1 was conceived as a prototype by few former McLaren employees some time back. Now, it is almost ready to come out of the production line, into sales next year. To be sold at a price of $75,000, which may seem expensive at first, but after going through all the technical specification, you will have to agree it is a neat bargain.

It will be powered by two engines, first one a 2000 cc Ford EcoBoost engine generating over 300 bhp and 332 lb ft of torque, the second a three cylinder 1000 cc Ford EcoBoost generating around 180bhp and 236 lb ft of torque.
The former engine can do a zero to hundred in around 2.8 seconds while the latter can pull the same feat in around 3.2 seconds, extremely impressive figures given that the engine does not cross 350 bhp. Top speed of 165 mph could be reached.

These two engines could also be accompanied by turbochargers. A better air intake could increase the power output by several horsepower, increase fuel efficiency and decrease greenhouse emission. Top speed should also cross the 175 mph mark, instead of 165 mph in the prototype version.

A six-speed sequential gearbox by Hewland makes transmission effortless. This manual transmission is a real show stealer. Gear shifts are smoother than expected and instantaneous. The positive feedback is also a nice touch. Suspension are push in rod type, with adjustable cambers that can be accessed once the wheels are detached.

The powerhouse rests at the back of the vehicle, engine arranged horizontally on the axle. A greater down force makes the car easier to control. The centre of gravity will lie low that amounts to more stability.

As it Elemental RP1 is a lightweight car, it will weight only 1367 lbs. Using carbon fibre during manufacturing reduces the weight considerably. The frame, skeleton, under body protection, outer body and even seats are composed of carbon based materials. This is a significant reduction in weight, something which would not have been possible if aluminium was used, even though it is a cheaper option. A higher power to weight ratio will give this car an edge over its competitors. A 46 litre fuel tank will make sure one can do long distances without worrying about refuelling.

It is unique from others in many ways; there are no roofs, doors or windshields. It even accompanies a 100 litre luggage space. What sets it apart is the under body protection and aerodynamic function. Foot pedal has been raised to increase front end down force, making the car very stable at high speeds. New set of tires will substantially increase overall grip, which will be beneficial when cornering.

Looking up front, we can see a pair of three headlight clusters arranged in a distorted triangle. Such clever designs are to be found all over and strangely under the car as well. Anyone having a first look at Elemental RP1 will surely get impressed by the design aesthetics and modernity surrounding the car.
