Electric Mercedes Model To Take On Tesla Model S In Paris
|   Friday, July 22, 2016
Mercedes will bring to the Paris Motor Show a fully electric concept. It will foreshadow a future electric Mercedes model capable of nearly 500 km in range which will be released in 2018 as part of the Germans future plan. Tesla just got a rival!

It looks like everyone was surprised by the success of the American company that manufactures electric cars and everyone wants a piece of it. The exclusivity which Tesla has on the luxury and electrical SUV segments allowed it to enter for the first time in history in the top 10 most valuable companies in the automobile world.

The Germans answer is not delayed: the first luxury model, fully electric, will debut in Paris this autumn. Moreover, in an interview with Australian journalists, Mercedes-Benz Australia boss David McCarthy said that the future model will be "a good reason to be concerned about" for the Tesla Model S! However, there will be room for both models on the market, since at launch, scheduled for 2018, the Germans version could cost some 200,000 dollars in its higher variants.

The first information indicated that the first full-electric model from Mercedes will be built on the GLC-Class crossover platform, similar to that with internal combustion engines, but with a different design. This could have a battery pack under the floor, at least two electrical motors (one per axle) and up to 540 horsepower, according to a report by German publication Autobild. At the same time, Mercedes introduced a dedicated platform only for electric vehicles called "multi model architecture". It will be modular, so it may be used for many models too.
The Mercedes-Benz car will be, therefore, a major competitor for Tesla S as a pure luxury electric sedan that is able to run long distances without recharging the batteries.

As for achieving this, the Mercedes-Benz sedan will have to offer besides the zero emissions impressive range autonomy too. We are talking about more than 500 kilometers without recharging the batteries. The car, which will be presented in Paris this fall will be a concept and will also feature an AWD system.
In addition, the future car will benefit inside from latest technologies and those who will be working on it will feature the best materials on the market. When this concept goes into production, experts in the field believe that this new car bearing the Mercedes-Benz logo will cost about 100,000 euros (or double that, as others think) which will cause it to enter the same category as Tesla S.

So far, the only electric cars produced by Mercedes-Benz are the B-Class EV and Smart Four Two ED. In addition to the electric car on which they are already working and which has not yet received a name, Mercedes-Benz will develop several electrical projects which will include solutions for energy storage and batteries for homes that will be built in Australia this year.

Mercedes will launch by the end of the decade four fully electric models. The minimum range found on the weakest model will be 400 km, while the two models will be an SUV and two sedans.
