Egoista: The Lamborghini Concept That Celebrates 50 Years Since The Establishment Of Lamborghini
|   Tuesday, May 14, 2013
There was great celebration in Sant'Agata Bolognese, the Lamborghini feud, the occasion being half of a century of existence, a significant accomplished by the Italian manufacturer. An event that could not go unnoticed, nor unmarked. The Italians held a series of important events this weekend. At the end of these events, they had revealed the surprise that marks that venerable age.

Named Egoista, the supercar was revealed by Stephan Winkelmann, President of the Italian brand in the festive dinner held in Bologna.
This took place after no less than 350 the Lamborghini cars crossed Italy, in an event meant to celebrate half a century of existence of the manufacturer from Sant'Agata Bolognese.

The design concept bears the signature of Walter da Silva, and was inspired by the shape of Apache combat helicopters. The legacy of the aircraft is found in the car cockpit, which is for single people. This element largely justifies the name choice, Egoista, meaning selfish. Almost the whole body is made of carbon fiber, and the vitreous cockpit can be removed to decrease the overall weight of the car. Power is supplied by a V10 engine displacing 5.2 liters.

It is a single-seat vehicle, and through this concept Lamborghini, demonstrates that it is the world champion of surprises, especially if we consider the beautiful Veneno.

Walter da Silva, the head of design for the entire VW Group, said: "This is a car made for a single person, to have fun and to express their own personality. It is designed for people who want the most extreme and most special things in the world. This car represents extremes of hedonism; it is a car without compromise. In a word, it is selfish. The cockpit, made entirely of carbonfibre and aluminium, represents a sort of survival cell, allowing the driver to isolate and protect themselves from outside elements. We kept an eye on the future when designing the Egoista, with the idea that the cockpit could have been taken from a jet aircraft and integrated in to a road vehicle, to provide a different travel option".

For the Egoista's creation, Wiliam da Silva was aided by Alessandro Dambrosio and Stefan Sielaff, who lead the VW Group's exterior and interior design teams, respectively. The side profile is said to have been modeled to represent a charging bull with its head down, pointing at the front wheels. The back of the car was left exposed in order to give the Egoista cleaner aerodynamics as well as a more dramatic look. Lamborghini has described the Egoista as "a four-wheeled UFO".

At the Geneva motor show this year, the Lamborghini Veneno was unveiled and was the initial part of the company's 50th anniversary celebrations. 3 examples of the 740 horsepower, 221 mph monster, based on the Lamborghini Aventador, were sold.

Unlike the Veneno, which eventually reached the hands of a very lucky few, the Lamborghini Selfish, remains just a concept. Or, as the Italians wrote in the official press release, "Selfish is pure excitement, Never Never Land, something no one can ever have, and will always remain a dream for everyone."
