Driving the Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray
|   Monday, January 20, 2014
With the Detroit Motor Show coming to an end, we have witnessed some serious horsepower and beauty this year. However, some of the vehicles currently available across global markets have also made quite a huge impact. The Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray for example is one such vehicle, which despite being unveiled quite a while back, manages to make an impact with car enthusiasts and drivers alike.

We were lucky enough to test drive a C7 Stingray and out first impression of this vehicle was enhanced owing to its elegant yet sporty exterior.
Without doubt, it is currently one of the best looking vehicles we have, while performance and level of luxury depends on their available variants. The 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray is actually built from scratch. Nothing about this vehicle is old school, – apart from its nameplate of course - while every part is designed exclusively for this vehicle.

Double wishbone suspension on its front and rear end make it highly suitable for urban environments or cruising, while magneto rheological dampers along with transverse springs complete the general drive feel. Behind the wheel, it feels powerful and ready to jump off the starting line any instant, while its huge body panels keep the vehicle grounded with additional weight.

Corvettes are legendary due to their performance parameters, while we can expect nothing short of perfection from this build. Corvettes heading for the UK are available with the Z51 optional performance package, which reduce performance along with fuel consumption and CO2 emission. The US however gets a more powerful drive train, owing to less stringent emission laws. It is one of the most powerful sports vehicles in class, while power is actually felt while driving.

Power comes from a 6.2 liter turbocharged small block engine, displacing 460 BHP along with 465 ft lb of torque. It is mated to a seven speed transmission system with standard rear wheel drive. An automated transmission is also available, while Chevrolet is offering a convertible variant as well. Throttle response time is low, which gives it a suave, smart and restless feel. This is good for the young and young at heart, although you would not dare think about the CX7 Stingray for daily commuting, unless of course you would like to burn a hole in your pocket.

Weighing close to 1,500 kg, power distribution is distributed among its front and rear wheels evenly. Corvettes displace huge amounts of torque, which are distributed mainly to their rear wheels. This as a result generates immense power. The Corvette C7 Stingray has an electronically powered rear differential, which is capable of distributing power evenly.

You could own one if you have a need for speed. Even though it is much refined as compared to previous generation models, Chevrolet has enhanced interiors, which raises base prices. It is up to you to decide whether you would like to spend £61,495 for a two seated coupe or would opt for other performance vehicles. The final decision is completely yours.
