Dodge Unveils 2014 SRT Viper Grand Touring at Detroit
|   Friday, January 17, 2014
Dodge has extended their 2014 Viper lineup, by introducing an all new Grand Touring option. This vehicle features lesser torque and power, although decent fuel efficiency is expected off this model. Dodge further claim to have refined drive ability and general ergonomics, making the Viper Grand Touring a potential cruising car. Unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show this week, this vehicle features upgraded trim options, along with better equipment level, while performance enhancing options are claimed to have been added, to smoothen performance.

We could be looking at traction control, electronic stability control and an electronically adjusted Bilstein Damp Tronic suspension. This has various settings, which can be altered manually to attain various degrees of movement, depending on terrain. Leather seats and alcantara upholstery is available on base variants, although we are not sure of their presence in the production variant.

The interior showcased this week was based on black, even though we could expect caramel and red finish on its production model. Even though pricing is expected to be official unveiled b the end of this month, experts say it should be close to £70,000. Dodge has placed the base variant of its Viper at £62,214, while the top end GTS features a £75,873 price tag. This vehicle should be placed between both these models to attract sales volume.

Mechanically, this vehicle is similar to the Viper GT, displacing 640 BHP from an 8.4 liter V10 engine, capable of reaching a top speed of 206 MPH. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible in less than 4 seconds. Dodge is currently offering Stryker green paint on this vehicle, which will also be introduced on their GT and GTS models.

The GT model in particular, will also sport a Venom Black paint scheme on next generation vehicles. Unique vehicles will be built in future as well, although Dodge plans on designing these as Limited Editions. This green paint scheme will differentiate the SRT Viper GT from other variants, as exterior modifications have not been made. An aerodynamic upgrade kit was showcased at Detroit this week and this pack includes a carbon fiber spoiler, rear wings and extended front splitters.

This vehicle draws inspiration from them previously launched Snakeskin Green color, back in 2008. Dodge has used an additional yellow pigmentation on this vehicle, to give it a slight metallic finish. These details will give the Viper SRT GT a whole new feel. Exterior details have been borrowed from its predecessor, although it retains its original identity. We had tested the last generation Viper GTS on road and hence expect this model to be similar in most aspects.

Refinement is guaranteed, along with additional interior space for additional comfort. We are yet to receive official confirmation regarding other technical details and will bring them to you soon. We are happy with its exterior design and like the fact that Dodge is finally thinking about enhancing visual components of the Viper. It was a neglected brand for long, but this should change soon.
