Details On The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake
|   Monday, July 02, 2012
Finally, the wait is over. After a long time of speculation, of having only spy shots to enjoy, the Germans from Mercedes-Benz have officially unveiled their CLS Shooting Brake at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
This car wants to be a new approach on the wagon concept, a more sporty and sleek one. The builders say they even took inspiration from the arched roof of a coupe and tossed in. In fact, they are so thrilled with this car that the following statement was released: "The proportions of the CLS Shooting Brake are surprising but clearly those of a coupé, and create a basic stance which makes it look ready for the off: the long bonnet, narrow-look windows with frameless side windows, and dynamic roof sloping back towards the rear.
It is only when taking a second look that it becomes clear that the Shooting Break actually has five doors and offers ‘more' in terms of function."
As far as looks go, the car is stunning and it will most likely enjoy a high success level with buyers. Some go and say that it would be a hit even in the USA where wagon aren't exactly top sellers; you could say wagons are looked down (to use a nice term) on with a passion in that part of the world. Demand levels seem to indicate that, and as a result, the CLS Shooting Brake will not travel the Atlantic Ocean for the time being. If people want it bad enough, however, officials might change their mind.
Now for the important bits. Engine choices are as follows: two V6s, a V8, and a 4 cylinder unit. The 2.2 liter CLS 250 4 cylinder diesel and the 3.0 liter CLS 350 CDI diesel engines will be made ready for European buyers. Traction via rear wheels or all of them is also available. Also, it seems that an AMG version is in the works if spy shots are correct, but no official confirmation exists right now.
As far as cargo space is concerned, the CLS has it in plentiful amounts. With the rear seats folded about 55 cubic feet of cargo can be easily transported. Compared to the M class that's about 75 percent, however, that is compensated by the lack of any SUV inconveniences. Aluminum is used extensively in the car to bring the weight down; the frameless doors, hood, front fenders, tailgate, and a good deal of the engine and suspension. Just the aluminum doors alone help save about 50 lbs over standard steel doors.
Besides the aforementioned elements, the CLS Shooting Brake comes with the dynamic full LED head light system found on the standard CLS, but in this case arrives with the Intelligent Light System previously only found on Mercedes models with xenon headlights. Adaptive Highbeam Assist, as Mercedes calls its automatic high beam headlights, has also been adapted to the optional full LED system.
Now, if you live in the States and this beauty enticed you, you'd better start a massive lobby action with Mercedes-Benz so that they start shipping the car in that part of the world too.
