Dacia City To Be Launched In 2015 And Will Cost 5,000 euros

The Dacia City is back to being the center of attention thanks to a new wave of rumors regarding the imminent launch of a mini-class model under the Romanian manufacturer's brand. The French from Caradisiac argue that the second city car in the history of Dacia will be launched next year and will cost 5,000 euro.

Dacia City, as the project is known, is widely publicized in the press in Romania but it will not, however be produced in either Mioveni or the Tangier plant, but in India, at the Renault-Nissan plant in Chennai.
The idea of assembling the new mini at the AvtoVAZ Lada factory in Russia was abandoned for financial reasons. Not only the high costs of retrofitting production lines were blamed, but also the limited success of city cars on this market, which would make integrating a segment A model unprofitable in the short and medium term.

This car represents the beginning of the range and will be assembled in India, mainly for the local market, but thereafter Renault and its partner Nissan are planning to launch it in Latin America, Russia and Southeast Asia, said Ghosn in a conference on the car's future at the Automobile Club of France. Renault's President justified the launch of this new model by the fact that "car is still a very expensive product" in many developing countries and the fact that access to mobility is one of the automotive industry's goals.

Dacia City will not be built on a new architecture developed by Renault in partnership with Daimler / Smart and used by the new generation of Twingo. The unusual configuration with a powered rear axle and the motor hidden in the trunk is still too exotic for a low-cost model dedicated especially to emerging markets and conservative clients.

There are two credible variants. One would be to use the conventional platform with front wheel drive of the old Twingo. The production costs would be reduced and the development costs are almost zero. But, the specifications require very clearly the need for a complete set of five doors. Thus, adapting the resistance structure of the old Twingo would become a relatively expensive task.
The saving solution is called Renault Pulse, a mini derivative of the current Nissan Micra generation produced and marketed exclusively in India.

The total length will not exceed the threshold of 3.8 meters, thus fitting in the current canons of the segment. The interior is extremely generous in tune with the smartbuy philosophy and strictly adheres to other models of the Dacia range: maximum versatility at minimum price.

The engine range will be a relatively small one, based solely on petrol units. The basic model will be animated by the classic aspirated 1.2-liter engine with 75 hp, and the top model will be offered with the new TCe turbocharged with three cylinders displacing 0.9 liters and producing 90 hp. The price range will also focus on simplicity: 5,000 euro for the 1.2-liter model, and 6,000 euro for the turbo.
