Complaint Filed Against Unintended Acceleration on a Tesla Model S
|   Monday, September 30, 2013
One of the major issues with a Toyota was its unintended acceleration at times. This caused a lot of problems for the company even though its root cause has not been discovered till date. This did not just cost Toyota Thousands of Dollars in repair and compensation, but has maligned the reputation of this Japanese brand. A similar issue has affected Tesla recently.

A complaint was filed recently by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration due to the unintended acceleration of Tesla's Model S.
Even though this problem was last heard of in 2009, courtesy Toyota, Audi was plagued by a similar problem during the 1980s. According to a registered complaint with the authorities, a unit of Tesla's Model S was being driven down a parking bay in 5 MPH with its brakes constantly applied.

The car suddenly accelerated and hit the curb, heading off the highway and hitting a retaining wall. A service department official as Tesla said that records indicate that the acceleration was constant close to 18 percent although it suddenly crossed 100 percent without any prior indication. According to this report, the driver was held responsible white Tesla claims that its vehicle was not at fault.

The technician also rubbished reports of unintended acceleration while blaming the driver of negligence. According to insiders, the Model S has a safety attachment which prevents the vehicle from accelerating beyond 92 percent at a time. Therefore, maximum throttle could not be achieved if this was indeed a case of unintended acceleration.

However, this case is in its preliminary stage and classified details cannot be revealed. Reports are currently being filed while this situation is being probed. Official comment is far from being announced while Tesla is unwilling to comment on its scenario. As with most of these reports with Audi and Toyota in the past, driver error was found to be its ultimate culprit. Similar findings are expected from this case as well. However, official comments will not be made right now. Tesla confirmed back in 2010 that it had hired Gilbert Passin, Toyota's Chief Engineer, who was employed with North America.

A full report of this disaster was posted along with the details regarding this case. "The car was being driven in a residential driveway in about 5 MPH. The car accelerated suddenly, despite its brake being applied. It hit the wall in the middle portion of the driveway and landed on a retaining wall 4.5 feet in height, just a few feet away from the curb.

The car was stuck at a 20 degree inclination up a side wall. A technician surveying the damage and the car said that its driver was at fault as indication clearly point out that the car was under full power while throttle went directly up from 18 to 100 percent in a matter of seconds. Due to advanced safety options installed in this vehicle, it should not have accelerated post 92 percent in case of a mechanical glitch. Clearly the driver was at fault here.
