Comparing Market Rivals Porsche 911 Turbo S with the Recently Unveiled Jaguar F-Type R Coupe
|   Sunday, June 01, 2014
Jaguar's new F-Type R Coupe, is a vehicle that is capable of handling stiff competition from the big names in the automotive world. When Jaguar came up with this brutal beauty, last year, comparisons were made with Porsche's dominant 911 Turbo S (in terms of price) and Boxter (specification wise). Jaguar's range of V8 engines, have been their specialty for some time now and are quite popular with customers.

However, comparing this vehicle to Porsche's 911 Turbo Cabriolet will be a folly, as the F Type is as much a hot rod, as it is refined and sporty.
The Coupe makes a different proposition in class, as its single monocoque chassis, binds together stability and refinement, enhancing handling and performance to a great extent. If you are looking for a performance vehicle, a coupe provides higher level of performance than a convertible, any day!

The F-Type has a less tenacious grip on the road surface, even though traction levels have not been compromised. It is however, a whole new story in wet conditions. Hence, even though this vehicle is capable of being pushed higher up the RPM levels, it might not be such a good idea around a corner, in wet conditions.

Slight under steer, which might be negligible at slow speed, is more evident as you go higher up the speed band. The rear axle has been tuned specifically, to help you place the nose, just how you want it. This is where you feel the importance of a finely tuned chassis. Cabin space also comes into play here and the F Type surely has a spacious interior. Priced at £85,000, Jaguar is offering quite a bit of everything, on this ride.

Refinement comes naturally to any Porsche and the 911 Turbo S is no exception. It is a mighty beast, which will allow you to cruise at speeds above 150 MPH, without batting an eyelid. Stability at high speeds is remarkable, which is primarily accredited to the adaptive dampers in play. The 911 rides on standard 20 inch rims, although, optional sizes are available.

Porsche's chassis is however not as stiff or refined as Jaguar's and this has a direct impact on its handling. The Jaguar F Type R Coupe is powered by a 502 ft lb displacing V8 power train, which is mated to an eight speed ZF automatic transmission system. Linear power delivery helps Jaguar stand out, as it stops quicker than a Porsche and accelerates out of corners quicker. The 911 Turbo S however, sports a higher top speed and is more refined and stable at that point.

Priced at £140,000, the 911 Turbo S costs a good £55,000 greater than the F Type R Coupe. This is a choice that is completely based on a buyer's personal preferences and spending ability. B both vehicles are class leaders, having their own set of positives and negatives. While Porsche helps you make a style statement when you arrive, Jaguar ensures you never turn up late!
