Citroen Reveals the C4 Picasso 1.6 eHDI
|   Friday, June 07, 2013
The Citroen C4 Picasso is still the best medium segment MPV there is in the market and apart from the nameplate, this vehicle does not share any features with its predecessor. The C4 Picasso is based on the all new EMP2 platforms developed by Citroen and if rumors are to be believed, Citroen Peugeot will be using this platform to develop 19 other vehicles.

Following the trend of the EMP2 platform, this vehicle is 140 kg lighter than its predecessor while the platform accounts for a reduction of half the weight.
The body is constructed partly out of aluminum and this accounts for the other half of weight reduction. Citroen confirms that the C4 Picasso will be available in five and seven seated versions, which will be introduced shortly. The C4 Picasso will be a direct market rival to the Renault Scenic and the Ford C Max and the new modification shows exactly what the PSA Citroen Peugeot plan on doing with their new C Segment vehicles.

The new platform is 40 mm shorter than the existing one although it features a 55 mm longer wheel base. The new C4 Picasso features mane external and internal modifications and some of the features which have been introduced for the first time include LED head lamps and wider front grille. Citroen claims that their vehicle will be more aggressive in terms of looks and personality.

The 1.6 diesel e-HDI is available widely and is expected to be the best selling version of the car. This engine displaces 115 BHP and features an engine compression ratio of 16:1. It features new pistons, EGR valve and a five holes injector. Although power displacement is expected to remain the same, the distribution should be linear with additional low level torque.

Fuel economy however rises to an incredible 70 MPG according to company estimates while the top speed recorded is close to 117 MPH. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible well within 11.8 seconds. The engine is fairly responsive on long runs and this vehicle is perfect for cruising. The smaller wheel base also means a smaller turning radius which makes this an ardent city car.

The slim front panels enable better front visibility while the high driving position makes this vehicle smooth on tarmac. Driving this vehicle is also smooth as all the controls are well within the grasp of the driver and this equals to smooth movements. Interior boot space is close to 537 liters while this car packs in sufficient passenger space.

Head and leg room is sufficient while the seats provide excellent thigh support. This makes the ride very comfortable for both the driver and the passengers. PSA Citroen Peugeot is yet to reveal the pricing on this vehicle although it is expected to be somewhere close to that of its predecessor. Safety is a primary concern with this vehicle and the engineers have taken care of things quite well. This is a complete vehicle that owners could want although it is not for the performance lovers.
