Citroen Reveals C4 Cactus Prior to Official Debut at Geneva
|   Friday, February 14, 2014
Citroen has unveiled the production variant of their C4 Cactus. This vehicle is undoubtedly one of the most radical designs we currently have in production form. Said to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, Citroen plans on bringing this vehicle to British shores by the end of 2014. Insiders have revealed Citroen's plans to make vehicle ownership easier than it currently is.

The C4 Cactus is trying to bring that very notion into practical use.
Base prices are expected near the £13,000 mark, while the range topping variant could be anywhere near £19,000. Citroen however, managed to get rid of excess weight on the C4 Cactus and even though this vehicle may seem bulky, it weighs in around 965 kg, which is 60 kg lighter than the Ford Fiesta's base variant.

Without formal test drives, we will not be able to confirm technical specifications and how it feels behind the wheel. However, considering current reports and news, we are expecting this vehicle to be sporty as well as feel edgy on road. Citroen is providing us with a range of low and mid range engine options including a three-cylindered 1.0 liter VTi turbo charged petrol engine displacing 81 BHP, 108 BHP displacing eTHP, 91 BHP displacing eHDI and a 99 BHP displacing BlueHDI engine.

Base CO2 emissions on these engines are near 82 g/km and although we are yet to receive news regarding a high BHP displacing variant, company sources have not filled us in with any such details. We have however been informed of a PSA automated transmission system, with optional manual on this vehicle, which insiders say, leads to smoother gear shifts.

The exterior has been remodeled to give it a feel good factor, while we are impressed by their ingenious designs, which involve hints of a cross over. There have been fashionable cross over vehicles in the past too, although they failed miserably in terms of performance. However, this is not the case with Citroen's latest creation. They have designed quite a few C Segment vehicles successfully.

We are also expecting a mobile phone styled contract to be offered by Citroen to its C4 Cactus buyers, where an owner would have to pay monthly installments to neutralize accurate budgeting and insurance. The C4 Picasso is based on Citroen's PSA Platform1, which was used to build the Peugeot 208 and C3. The Cactus however is smaller than its other rivals in class, which makes it light weight, but reduces interior and boot space.

Use of high strength aluminum and steel makes this vehicle sturdy and long lasting. Standard weight saving measures includes use of aluminum parts only, although we have been told of integrated engineering measures having been used. Citroen found the need for designing a large wheel base vehicle and they have done the same with their C4 Picasso. Without knowing about the interior details, we will not be able to comment on it. Hence, stay tuned as we get you the latest details soon.
