Citroen Chief: \"We will reinvent through a new range\"
|   Saturday, May 11, 2013
Frederic Banzet, Citroen CEO, confirmed the launch of a new range "C" for the second half of 2014, which will see the engine being simplified and reduced operating costs.

To make it easier to differentiate between Peugeot and Citroen, Frederic Banzet says it will use the DS line to capture premium customers and its C-line to win over buyers who want an "optimized cost-to-function ratio." That means they will accept a less powerful engine if they get a more advanced infotainment system.

Citroen is preparing a comprehensive review of the range "C", according to Automotive News, quoting the brand CEO, Frederic Banzet. The distinction between the "C" range and the DS range will be much clearer. At the same time, the distinction between Citroen and Peugeot will be dictated not by the price, but the customer expectations from these models. The French will be referred to a larger number of customers, and will attempt to limit, or even eliminate, the overlap between the brands of the group PSA, Peugeot and the Citroen. The new range "C" of the French goes through an evolution, keeping design powerful and radical choices, and bringing new specifications.

Some changes include the simplification of a range of engines and transmissions, introducing possibilities for customization, and a more generous list of optional equipment. Citroen will attack the competitors by reducing maintenance costs. Customers will be able to order equipment as well as multimedia displays with touch control with various intelligent technological elements and more.

The French manufacturer of cars is not planning to have C-line cars that can be driven at 250 km/h on the highway, which means simplification of the engine range and gearboxes. But value is added elsewhere, through the ability for the customer to personalize his car with smart equipment like a large touchscreen.

The hybrid system developed together with Bosch also has a chance at production. This opportunity is real, given its high efficiency. But this hybrid system may not be present in the Citroen range in the near future for reasons of cost.

The new range "C" from Citroen will start production from the second half of 2014. The CEO of the French brand says that the bold choices are made to try and attract customers with designs that distance themselves from the competition. These models have also been designed to distance from traditional comparisons relating to the price.

"We never said it was a positioning based on price. We looked at customers' expectations per segment, which enabled us to position the brands. If you take the current situation, the price of the new Citroen C3 in France is between 12,150 euros up to 21,000 euros. A DS3 is 16,500 euros up to 30,000 euros. So you can see the wide range of prices we are covering" said Frederic Banzet.

Regarding the prices of new models in the "C" range, the French at Citroen say they will not develop a low-cost model to contend with Dacia models. Their models will be competitive in terms of price as they are. All these improvements are due to the simplification applied to the engine range.
