Citroen C4 Cactus - First Images Of The New French Compact Crossover
|   Wednesday, February 19, 2014
The Citroen C4 Cactus is the first model in the range of affordable vehicles of the French brand, promoted under the name "C-Line". First images of the production version of this crossover have appeared five years after the launch of the DS range, and 136 years since the birth of Andre Citroen, founder of the French brand. The official presentation of C4 Cactus is scheduled for February 6, 2014, while the launch is set for Geneva Motor Show.

In relation to the concept with the same name, the series version of C4 Cactus presents the same distinctive design.
Basically, the only differences are in the side window and the C pillar, which have received forms suitable for production, alongside the locks, door handles and other such items.
Surprisingly, the "Airbumps" system is present. We are talking about air capsules integrated into the brown ornaments enveloping the doors. These panels provide flexibility and avoid scratches and the bodywork damage occurring in parking areas by careless opening of the doors, or other small unfortunate incidents such as a blow from shopping trolleys.

Except for the color, the interior is taken almost entirely from the concept, although the French could offer their customers the ability to order eccentric combination of orange and white for the interior. The idea of customization that the French from Citroen tried to instill to customers is also present in the case of the C4 Cactus, explains Frederic Duvernier, exterior designer for the concept, who announced the possibility to choose the color of air bags fitted on the model; the customers can choose from a wide range of colors.

The classic gear lever has been replaced by buttons, but the board clocks and the conventional controls on the console have fallen prey to modern technology, their functions being taken over by a couple of digital displays.

The front seats are also unusual. The C4 Cactus is not equipped with individual front seats, according to current industry standards, but with a bench seat, according to American car models from the 50s, that can accommodate up to three passengers. The logic of this choice is explained by Mark Lloyd, a director of the design of the Citroen: "The introduction of a bench instead of two individual seats in the front is a more expensive solution, but it creates a sense of comfort."

Citroen has not yet announced any technical details. Most likely, the C4 Cactus shall inherit the range of engines from the C4 hatchback, but the emergence of an Air Hybrid version, animated by a system composed of a unit PureTech internal combustion and compressed air engine, developed in collaboration with Bosch, is not ruled out.

The Citroen C4 Cactus will test the public reaction to the proposed new philosophy by the line of the C-Line models, which will bring together simplistic, but nonconformist, cars without any expensive and unnecessary gimmicks. Basically, Citroen returns to its traditional values of the iconic 2CV and DS times. The French manufacturer's range will be divided between the affordable range C-Line and the luxury line DS.
