Chrysler Launches a New Model of the Jeep Grand Cherokee
|   Friday, June 07, 2013
The latest generation model of the Jeep Grand Cherokee has been modified as compared to its predecessor and this model bears no resemblance whatsoever to its predecessor. The modifications have been extended to both the interior and the exterior of the vehicle and this makes it an ardent performer apart from a great piece of machinery. The major mechanical modification includes the addition of the all new eight speed ZF transmission system designed by Chrysler.

This is a standard option on all new models of the Jeep and the company claims that the addition of the new transmission system will enhance the performance of the Jeep to a whole new level. This has improved the gear shift ratio, shift timing as well as the fuel efficiency and CO2 emission of the vehicle. The Cherokee brand had been bleeding profusely owing to its ancient five speed transmission system and Chrysler has finally got rid of it.

The UK will not get every engine option Chrysler is to provide on the Jeep Grand Cherokee for the simple reason that they will not be at par with the norms set up by the Government. However, the available engine options are 3.0 liter diesel V6 along with a 6.4 liter Grand Cherokee SRT V8 engine. This is however a Limited Edition model and just 20 units of the SRT will be sold on British soil.

Jeep is also planning on launching an Eco friendly version of the Grand Cherokee which optimizes the transmission ratio and timing, hence returning the maximum possible amount of mileage. Average fuel efficiency is close to 37.7 MPG while CO2 emission is near 200 g/km. Some of the major external changes include a wider front grille, pronounced head lamps, LED Daytime Running Lights, protruding fog lamps along with slimmer tail lamps.

This gives the grand Cherokee an aggressive look. A rear spoiler enhances the aerodynamic appeal of the vehicle. The vehicle features four drive modes namely Limited, Summit, Limited Plus and Overland. Rear visibility is enhanced due to the wider tail gate and this makes this huge vehicle easy to park in traffic.

Prices in the UK are expected to start from £37,000 while the top of the line version could set you back by close to £50,000. The vehicles are right hand drive and have been designed exclusively for the UK. Chrysler has announced an expected launch date of July 2013. The minor exterior changes may seem subtle, but considering the stout boxy structure of the Jeep, this is a sight for sore eyes.

The interior has benefitted a lot from the styling changes and is also quite comfortable. Jeep has installed a 4.8 inch touch screen inside the center driving console and this lends the vehicle a very up market feel. Air conditioning and seat heating systems make the ride excessively comfortable. Both the V6 and the V8 engines are very powerful and refined and Chrysler has taken a step in the positive direction in refurbishing the old Grand Cherokee.
