Chinese car makers MG set to launch the diesel MG6
|   Thursday, November 22, 2012
Chinese car makers MG has finally showcased their upcoming model, the diesel powered MG6. MG had first made its public debut in China 18 months back and this is their second vehicle launch in the same time frame. MG faced quite a lot of criticism when it hit the market as they did not have a diesel vehicle. The company is set to silence critics with the launch of this vehicle.

The MG6 is in direct competition with the Ford Mondeo and Focus and as a result a diesel variant was needed to be able to consider surviving in the segment.
Petrol vehicles account for close to 10 percent of the world automobile sales and hence MG did not have any feasibility in the Chinese market with the launch of a petrol variant.

MG has plans if introducing the 6 in the British market and as a result the vehicle has been given quite a few modifications, keeping in mind the needs of the European market. The engine is more refined and produces 148 BHP @ 4000 RPM. Maximum torque production is at the 1800 RPM range and the vehicle delivers an average fuel consumption of 53.5 MPG with 1239 g/km CO2 emission.

The MG6 has been upgraded in quite a few ways and the vehicle has better features. With the addition of a new wing, adaptive damper controls, suspension along with additional grip and traction and road grip. The vehicle when pushed glides over asphalt and the diesel features a weight advantage of 60 kg over the petrol version. The hydro electric power system also does its bit to maintain steering control and the brakes are new and improved.

The six speed automatic transmission system has top end gear shift ratios and as a result driving the vehicle is a breeze. The first badge of the MG6 vehicles is currently under production and the pre bookings have been started. MG plans to deliver the first lot of the vehicles to the customers within the first quarter of 2013 and the initial plans have been finalized.

Priced at 18,195 Pounds, the vehicle is capable of travelling at a top speed of 125 MPH while accelerating to 60 MPH in 8.9 seconds. These are respectable figures on this vehicle and with a four cylindered engine displacing 1849 cc, the MG6 diesel is quite a powerful machine. The six speed manual transmission system mated to the engine provides decent support to performance and this enhances the overall performance of the MG6.

Overall, this vehicle is quite an efficient machine and provides the perfect balance between ride comforts, urge to drive and stability. MG still needs to prove its worth in the market and this is the only way the popularity of MG vehicles will increase. Progress is being made to take the company global and the final plans are being chalked out. The petrol variant of the MG6 has been providing decent service since launch and no major problems have been diagnosed as of yet.
