Chevrolet Showcase the Corvette C7.R Quite Unexpectedly
|   Wednesday, August 21, 2013
Chevrolet showcased its latest 2014 Corvette Stingray based C7.R at the Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach this week. This was quite the surprise as no one expected Chevrolet to come out with a new model of the Corvette just a few weeks after the very successful global launch of the Corvette Stingray. The race car was complete camouflaged although most of the lines were visible closely.

The car was taken for a spin around the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the results were quite amazing.
Even though this was just the test mule, the car seemed to be pretty smooth and well prepped. The production version of the car should be quite sporty considering the test mule. Chevrolet has designed this car to take part in endurance race series and as a result this car could be a part of the 24 Hours of Le Mans quite soon.

Even though Chevrolet has not commented on the drive train, experts believe that at the heart of this monster is a 5.5 liter V8 engine lifted off the Corvette C6.R. The engine is mated to a paddle shifter while the transmission system is well adjusted to the general drive train settings of the car.

A GT3 Spec Tuner version of the Corvette is currently under development at Callaway, Chevrolet's performance partner. This means that there is more good news for Corvette fans as a street legal version of the race cars will be out for the public quite soon. Even though a first drive report on the C7.R is not available at the moment, experts who drove the car around the track revealed that the vehicle is quite user friendly, quite like the latest breed of Corvettes.

Chevrolet has taken care and ensured that the car is not rear heavy which as a result makes this good for drifting and keeping in control at the same time. The test mule was not pushed to its limits on its first day although the C7.R is capable of doing a top speed of close to 180 MPH while acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible well under 3.8 seconds.

The best part about the new generation Corvette is that the vehicle is quite fuel efficient. This as a result means that the Corvette can finally be used as a commuter, although there is not much space inside the cabin. However, it is perfect for the younger generation who like to roam around in style and speed. The Corvette is a style statement and Chevrolet has concentrated completely on performance on the Corvette.

Much is not known as of yet of the Corvette C7.R and the hype regarding the vehicle is quite high in the market. Basically the car felt good around the track and that is all the information we have at the moment. Chevrolet should announce the details regarding the C7.R soon and we will keep you posted. As of now the officials are tight-lipped and letting the hype catch on. This could be a smooth marketing strategy.
