Chevrolet revolutionizes the airbag safety technology
|   Monday, January 07, 2013
Chevrolet has induced a new technologically innovated air bag system into the all new Chevrolet Cruze and the frontal air bags have been designed with a new type of air vents. General Motors claim that this air bag technology is more efficient and in case of an accident it will be more effective than normal air bags. However, the best aspect of this air bag is that it will provide better safety at a lower cost than the dual stage air bags.

General Motors have also done a lot of tests on this air bag and the results show differently when the crashes occur at different speeds.
It is also found to be more efficient than dual stage air bags. These air bags also feature a weight loss and are hence easier to put into any vehicle. The Cruze, with the new air bag technology has already been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Organization and the technology has received an incredible five star rating.

The vehicle has been rated five stars for the front and rear safety measures and this is equivalent to what the Cruze had been rated in the past. Therefore, this new air bag technology does not only provide top of the line safety but is also cheap and saves up a lot of weight. Even though the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not conducted any safety tests on the Cruze with the new air bags, the engineers have reviewed the video test that Chevrolet has conducted on their own.

The flexible venting system works just fine as compared to the dual stage air bags. The dual stage air bags have gas filled in them and in case of an accident, the gas escapes, allowing the air bags to inflate. With the new flexible air bags, the bags do not inflate till the driver hits the air bags and as a result, they are more effective than the old dual stage air bags.

The rate of inflation is quite low in the flexible air bags and as a result they are more effective in most occasions. The ratings that this has received in all tests are amazing and this is sure to replace the way people look at air bags in the future.

The flexible air bags also help the driver sit far away from the steering wheel as the bag has the gas stored in it until the driver hits the air bags. Therefore, the timing is extended and this is a great innovation that Chevrolet has made in the field of driver safety.

Normal air bags are also less efficient when you compare them with the new flexible air bags and as a result this is more effective from all directions. It saves money, features a reduction in weight and is also more effective in providing safety. Chevrolet will install the flexible air bags in all its models post the conclusion of the tests and the Cruze is most likely to be the first vehicle to sport this technology.
