Chevrolet comes up with the all new Sonic RS
|   Thursday, October 04, 2012
Chevrolet has at last come up with the next generation of the Sonic RS and the vehicle was showcased at the Paris International Motor Show 2012. Chevrolet had planned to discontinue the model, to which customers replied that if the company stopped production, they would come up with a new model. The aftermarket industry is highly developed in the States and the company considered this threat seriously. Hence, the RS was launched.

The Chevrolet Sonic RS is an upgraded version of the Aveo and built on the same platform and like its predecessor, the Sonic RS is fuzzy and fun to drive.
Chevrolet is planning to launch the RS in Europe and the probabilities are being probed at the moment and if rumors are to be believed, the RS will be up for sale in the UK from 2013.

However, if the RS is based on the current model of the Sonic, drive train and body works should not be changed and this is just a speculation as Chevrolet has not declared an official specification list as of yet.
The RS could be powered by a 1.4 liter super charged petrol engine producing 138 BHP directly lifted from the Trax. The drive train will receive a minor modification in the form of a new six speed manual and automated transmission system.

On the exterior front, the Sonic RS has been redesigned and the vehicle looks more aggressive and mean thanks to its carved body frame. The RS looks chubby with the new grille, rear wings and spoiler and the new 17 inch alloyed rim keeps the visual aesthetics pleasing.

The interior features new sports seats and leather upholstery with aluminum and carbon fiber fittings and the vehicle gets an overall complete look. The suspension has been stiffened and the new Macpherson strut front and rear suspension system and the retuned dampers make for a comfortable ride.

The Sonic RS feels like a retuned Aveo and the customer's hopes of a fun to drive quicker Sonic is broken at least for the moment. The car needs to be pushed constantly to its limits if you want it to go fast and the sound is not very pleasing either.

The RS can be used as a family vehicle but is not suited for the fun of driving. This is not the best vehicle to own at the moment if you are looking for a car that will be economical as well as easy to drive.
Priced at $20,995, top speed, acceleration, fuel efficiency and the other technical specifications etc of the RS are yet to be announced. But considering the facts that we already know, if these are not improved, the RS is set to be a complete disaster.

Nonetheless Chevrolet should be praised for looking into the concerns and demands of the customers. One failure will not change the future of the company which has cars like the Camaro to prove its mettle. However, an improvement would have been better appreciated.
