Caterham Showcases the High Performance SP 300 R
|   Monday, July 29, 2013
Caterham is known to bring in that extra spark which lacks in most of the sports cars of this generation. The company is known to launch cars leading cars time and again, cars which may not be practical but will surely set your heart racing. The company has gone ahead and done the same, this time in the form of a true track vehicle – the SP 300 R.

People, who are really bored with Porsche winning the segment each year without a real fight, are in for a treat as the SP 300 R is capable of doing the same things Porsche can.
The car was recently taken for a spin around the track and the results were phenomenal. This is a hard core, track tuned sports car which needs special mention considering its ability around the track.

From under the hood to the exterior, this car screams out performance and outright speed. The driver ergonomics along with the aerodynamics seem to be perfect and this makes it one of the best cars to head around track with. The SP 300 R is built up entirely of aluminum which makes it extremely lightweight yet durable and the Ford 2.0 liter DuraTEC engine is the big icing on the cake.

This engine is both powerful and economical and these are the features which define the best track cars. The economical engine helps the car eat up more asphalt before having to take a break, hence saving up on sufficient amounts of time. The engine is mated to a Hewland F3 transmission system with paddle shifts. The car is extremely comfortable, a factor which is not commonly seen in most track cars.

Even though there is nothing significant on the cabin and this car does not have an interior of sorts. The overall finish and engineering work is decent. The buttons and controls are well within the reach of the driver and the cabin is well spaced which gives a very tight yet roomy feel. The cabin is also sufficiently large to aid the driver and passenger leave the vehicle in emergency situations.

The ride quality is also unlike most of the sports cars that we see around us. The car is quick handler although the steering column is not very loose. The car has the best balance in class while the general ride quality is quite high. The Caterham truly feels like an ecstatic 16 year old on track although the hasty movements are limited.

The car features extensive use of LED and this enhances the exterior of the vehicle while making the car extensively efficient.
The engine displaces 300 BHP @ 7500 RPM and this wide range helps the car cope up with initial acceleration along with efficiently mid range power, two very important factors which determine a successful sports car. Overall, the Caterham SP 300 R is an affordable track car which can be taken around the track as well as on road by people with the need for speed.
