Can Ford make the its aluminium bodies F-150 concept a reality
|   Friday, January 03, 2014
Ford are ready to unveil a new version of their F-series pickup truck F-150. New version is expected to have an aluminium body. Let us look at some of the changes that we can expect from this version of F-150.

Firstly, Ford is pushing its cars to improve on the fuel economy and will surely apply this to their most popular vehicle as well, which at the moment is F-150. F-150 earlier had two versions, V-6 EcoBoost and V-8 engines. Survey reports say that EcoBoost version has a 40% more users than the V-8 version users.
So you can expect a little more advancement with mileage and coming up with more economic vehicle.

Besides the need to change the engine, you can say change in body is also a symbol that may indicate a higher mileage. Change in body to aluminium made means, it loses an approximate weight of 700 pounds which considerably push up the fuel economy even on the same engine.

Ford has asserted that you can count on aluminium that is being used to build F-150. Makers claim that they are using military grade of aluminium from the US army supplier themselves to guarantee quality of the material used in constructing F-150.

Though Ford is claiming to be having a smooth ride in the process to develop the Aluminium bodied F-150, they will be playing with decades old line of successful pickup trucks. It has been the best-selling truck for almost the last 37 years now. If they can make a perfect and better replica, it would be good. But if something could go wrong, company's fortune can get a turn.

Not only is this the worry point. Ford needs to change a lot of factory machines, instruments, calibrations and engineers to get on with mass scale production of Aluminium Bodied F-150. This will cost Ford a lot especially with the fact that they are hiring many new salaried workers. Not only money is the concern but Ford will need a lot of time to phase out existing robots and machinery and install new replacement. While machines are being phased out and replaced, factory will have its production completely stalled.

On first day of Detroit Auto Show January 10, in Joe Louis Arena, Ford has called for a press conference. It has not been official declared what the press conference will deal with. But automobile world is pretty sure that it will be unveiling of new aluminium bodied F-150. It is expected to have a 2.7L EcoBoost which will be smaller than any previous version of the truck.

Now is the time to wait and witness what Ford has up its sleeves. The concept is fabulous and if made into reality can hugely effect car production technology. Can its Aluminium body revolutionise the car making industry with light and fuel economic make? Or will Ford need to take hard blows to get back to the way cars are actually built? Only the unveiling on Jan 10 can tell the answer.
