Cadillac XT5: The SRX's Successor Arrives In Europe This Summer
|   Wednesday, November 18, 2015
The Cadillac XT5 will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which will take place between November 20th and 29th 2015. The SRX's successor will be available in Europe next summer.

After the withdrawal of Chevrolet from Europe (which was all about the low cost models produced by a Korean subsidiary), which has damaged the image more than help through sales figures, General Motors repositions itself on the European market by bringing iconic Chevrolet models (Camaro and Corvette) to Europe, especially the introduction of the premium brand Cadillac which is to contribute to changing the image of GM in Europe.

Cadillac is currently booming, and plans to launch no less than eight new models by 2020. The new Cadillac XT5 (or Crossover Touring 5, as it is called) is the second model of this offensive, which started last year with the CT6 flagship. The successor to the SRX bestseller changed its name and promises a revolution in the premium SUV segment.

Cadillac XT5 brings to Europe a new light platform that allows it to have a mass up to 126 kg lighter than its SRX predecessor. Cadillac cannot afford to be modest here and announces that the XT5 is lighter than the Audi Q5 by 45 kg and by 295 kg than the Mercedes-Benz GLE. For an SUV with a length of 4.82 meters these values are truly impressive.

The motorization of the Cadillac XT5 is ensured by a new V6 engine displacing 3.6 liters that develops 318 hp and 366 Nm of torque. Equipped with Start & Stop system and with the possibility of two-cylinder deactivation at partial loads, it promises a high level of efficiency. The gearbox is an automatic one, with eight steps, being the first automatic gearbox electronically controlled in the Cadillac range.

Cadillac XT5 will be available with front wheel drive and also all-wheel drive. The latter provides up to 100 percent torque to either axle, but also to either of the rear wheels, thanks to differential which is electronically controlled.

The Chinese version will get a 2.0-liter turbo engine whose power is not yet known. Both units will be coupled to an automatic transmission with eight steps.
The new model is built on a new chassis. They used the same technology and methods of "preparation" previously used in the development of the latest generation ATS and CTS models. To be clear, we are talking about laser welding procedures and the use of ultrahigh strength metals.

The XT5's dimensions are equal to 4,815 x 1,903 x 1,675 mm, and the wheelbase measures 2,857 mm. The Cadillac SRX is longer by 19 mm, wider by 7 mm and 6 mm high, but the wheelbase is 50 mm shorter.

The list of amenities from the Cadillac XT5 includes: rear surveillance camera, with the ability to display the video image on the rear view mirror in the passenger compartment, the CUE multimedia system, smartphone induction charging, electrically operated luggage door, optical blocks with LED and 360 degrees monitoring system.

The Cadillac XT5 will be produced in the US and China from the spring of 2016.
