Cadillac ATS Coupe - The Newest Rival For The BMW Series 4 And Audi A5
|   Sunday, January 19, 2014
Cadillac unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show the first body styles of the mid-range ATS (acronym for Allanté Touring Sedan) model. The extension of the range is made with the arrival of new ATS Coupe, a rival for the BMW Series 4, Mercedes C-Class Coupe, Audi A5 and even the new Lexus RC, unveiled last fall at Frankfurt.

"The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe is a natural step in the brand's progression," stated Uwe Ellinghaus, head of Cadillac's global marketing.
"The new car is for a new generation of drivers extending our target groups."

Developed on the same platform as the sedan, the new ATS Coupe inherits the rear wheel drive configuration, and the same wheelbase of 2,775 mm. The optional FE3 package brings the Magnetic Ride Control adaptive suspension, Brembo sport brakes and a limited slip differential. Standard version offers 18-inch alloy wheels and optional all-wheel drive.

Due to the wheelbase, the ATS Coupe offers a more elongated silhouette, new doors, plus a roof and replaced distinctive rear wings plus a redesigned trunk. The front side received a new bumper, a revised grille in the middle of which sits the new logo of the company. Thus, for the first time in the history of the brand, the laurels wreath disappeared from the firmament and only the company escutcheon was kept. This logo is one that the Cadillac offers for the first time along with the debut of the ATS Coupe.

The interior will offer new premium items such as fine leather upholstery, decorative stitching, aluminum inserts and wood, as well as carbon fiber. All these elements are offered depending on the option of the customers. For music lovers, Cadillac has installed a sound system developed jointly with Bose, able to render clear sounds through 12 loudspeakers in order to "give a new dimension to the driving experience."

The dashboard can be decorated with an 8-inch screen, dedicated CUE multimedia system, available with a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation and other features of the latest generation. The list of safety equipment is a generous one, including Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Under the hood two petrol engines will be available, both extremely potent. The first is a 2.0-liter powerplant, turbocharged, ready to deliver 272 horsepower and 400 Nm. This maximum torque of 400 Nm is, however, 14% higher than the four-door model. The 2-liter turbo engine has been slightly recalibrated by the Cadillac engineers for the new ATS Coupe. These resources are sufficient to sprint from 0 to 100 Km / h in about 5.6 seconds.

For the conservative customers who do not like the combination of a luxury coupe and a four-cylinder engine, Cadillac offers a V6 engine displacing 3.6 liters and capable of delivering 326 hp and 373 Nm. The customers receive an automatic transmission with six steps in the standard version, but may opt for a manual gearbox for the entry-level version.

"Cadillac is in it to win," said Jake Fisher, automotive test director for Consumer Reports. "They are producing vehicles that have better driving dynamics than the Germans, and the interior qualities are top notch. They are among the best you can get."
