Buying Pattern Change Killing Many Once Standard Ideas
|   Saturday, August 30, 2014
If you thought that cars had changed a lot in the last few years, you were right and now even the cars that had existed for many years as staples of the market are disappearing as tastes continue to change.

This may seem like a weird idea, but think about it! When was the last time you visited your local dealership and looked around the lot? If it you visited recently did you notice that the front line was loaded with crossovers, small SUVs, four-doors and compacts?

According to Yahoo's Motoramic, this is because these are the vehicles that people want and are buying in droves.
Look at the traffic that is passing you or you are passing on the open road the next time you are out. The chances are that you will see many more CUVs (crossover utility vehicles like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V), small SUVs (sports utility vehicles such as the Honda Pilot or Lexus 300 series), four-doors and compacts.

Indeed, statistics back up the contention that the change in market tastes is leading to a sea change in market patterns as CUVs, for the first time, surpassed four-doors, as the vehicle of choice.

These vehicles are in the process of pushing many vehicles, figuratively, off the automotive cliff and into oblivion. For example, if you want a base model, anything – the inevitable stop when a buyer can afford nothing else – you won't find one on a dealership lot or you may find one buried way down back where it's out of sight and mind. Motoramic pointed out that this is because looser credit terms and longer loan length have made better quality vehicles affordable at reasonable prices.

Also gone or going soon are:

Two-door coupes
Manual transmissions
Near-luxury vehicles (standard vehicles with near luxury equipment)
Two-seat pickups
Shorter pickups and beds
Full-sized vans and conversion vans
Minivans (CUVs easily take the place of these vehicles)
Luxury two-doors

In a strange change, manufacturers, seeing the swing in buying habits have even taken to calling some of their four-doors, coupes – even though they still have four doors.
