Buick Cascada - American Version Of Opel's Convertible Officially Revealed
|   Thursday, January 22, 2015
Buick unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit (January 12 to 25) its Cascada convertible, an elegant four-seater vehicle. This model will go on sale in the United States in the first quarter of 2016.

This fact marks another example of successful collaboration between the two brands, which have already jointly developed the Buick Encore and Opel Mokka, the Buick Verano notchback, and Opel Astra as well as the Opel Insignia and Buick Regal.

"The Opel Cascada was developed at our International Technical Development Center in Rüsselsheim, where more than 6,000 engineers work on Opel models, but also on products for other GM brands. So we are constantly searching for synergies, and are delighted that there is now another Cascada for a new market with this Buick. This shows our outstanding engineering expertise while also increasing capacity utilization at our Polish plant in Gliwice," said Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.

In Europe, the Cascada model won the appreciation of customers and the media alike. This happened because of numerous awards, including the Plus X Award in Germany, and Golden Steering Wheel in Switzerland. In Portugal, Turbo Magazine named it the year 2014 convertible.

Buick Cascada is powered by a super-efficient engine 1.6 ECOTEC Turbo Direct Injection rated at 147 kW / 200 hp. The four cylinder unit offers maximum torque of 300 Nm. The front suspension HiPerStrut (High Performance Strut), accurately and comfortably transfers power to the road, ensuring a smooth driving experience. The new generation turbo engine from Buick is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

A special characteristic of the Cascada model is the soft-top's high quality, which opens in just 17 seconds by simply pressing of a button, at running speeds of up to 50 km / h. The four-seater will be available in the US with luxury equipment such as 20-inch alloy wheels and leather seats that automatically slide forward to give passengers easy access to the rear seat. The strong points include the IntelliLink infotainment system with a seven-inch color touch screen.

With the Cascada model, Buick offers US customers a product that is highly emotional – it is the brand's first convertible in the last 25 years. In the US, the convertible market sales increased by three percent, to more than 131,000 units from 2009 to 2013. This segment is characterized by high customer loyalty: 37 percent of customers remain loyal to convertibles then when buying a new car. However, two thirds of them change the brand. This represents an important potential conquest for Buick Cascada.

"We will continue to work closely with Buick in the coming years wherever it makes sense," said Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.
"The new, 2016 Buick Cascada is a beautiful, engaging convertible that represents the very best of the brand's global development practices. It's a car that will delight customers with its fun spirit and help drive the momentum that's fueling Buick's success" stated Duncan Aldred, Buick Vice President.
