Bugatti Veyron Successor Will Be A 1,500 HP Hybrid
|   Monday, July 14, 2014
Bugatti could build a hybrid successor for the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse model, currently rated at 1200 HP, according to sources cited by Reuters. The new Bugatti could even be launched next year and will be powered by a herd of 1500 horses.
The new model may exceed the maximum speed record of 431 km / h (268 mph) set by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport version, sources said. The Veyron Super Sport has lost the title of the fastest production car in the world in February, when it was surpassed by the Hennessey Venom GT.

The new coupe could get a hybrid system of 1,500 hp from a 16-cylinder engine, and probably will be limited to just 450 units, just like the Veyron, said two sources close to the company.

Bugatti, the company owned by the Volkswagen Group, has already begun designing this model, which is likely to be launched in 2015.
Wolfgang Duerheimer, the new CEO of Bugatti, believes that the next model of the brand should be hybrid version, according to same sources who wished not to be identified because the information is confidential.

"The new model will not be less exciting than the Veyron. Our customers have certain expectations" said a Bugatti spokeswoman, leaving out any details.
Other famous brands of the super cars world such as Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche, have embraced hybrid technology after years of attempting to make various optimizations to the chassis and engine electronics to reduce CO2 emissions. The hybrid systems used by the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder models lead to increased performances and, at the same time, reduced the fuel consumption.

"Moving to hybrid propulsion seems like a logical next step", stated Stefan Bratzel, chief of the Centre of Automotive Management near Cologne. "By curbing emissions and boosting performance, they can justify building more of these cars."

In 1998, VW bought the Bugatti brand with Lamborghini and Bentley Motors to bring stability for the high-end carmakers. Inside sources said the brand was at a loss for years because of the high cost of developing the Veyron model. However, VW will not have any problems anymore, either in its quarterly or annual reports, due to Bugatti's gains.

Under the leadership of VW, the luxury brand, whose lineage extends to Italian car designer Ettore Bugatti, began production of the Veyron in 2005. Almost 430 of the 450 planned models have been sold.

There are also rumors that the Veyron's successor will employ lightweight construction and composite components. This is very important because its predecessor was considerably lacking in these facilities. A weight of under 4,000 lbs (about 1 814 kg), would make Bugatti competitive with other hypercar models on the market, in terms of weight of course.

The new Bugatti will probably debut next year, at the Geneva Motor Show most likely. The new Bugatti will see a total production run of 450 cars split between 300 coupes and 150 roadsters. The speed record for a production car might also be regained.
