BMW's Innovations At CES 2016 In Las Vegas

BMW presented at the 2016CES exhibition (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas more impressive concepts and technologies. The BMW i Vision Future Interaction is based on the i8 Spyder Concept and heralds the future i8 Spyder production model. But most important are the technologies found on board.

The BMW i Vision Future Interaction has a modified interior for autonomous driving and is equipped with technology for recognizing gestures that have reduced to almost to zero the number of buttons.
It also comes with a huge display of 21 inches on the passenger side on which they will be able to read emails or watch videos while driving autonomously.

When autonomous driving is enabled, called Auto Mode, the steering wheel is illuminated in a blue color and it moves away from the driver, while the sports seats receive more inclined and relaxing positions. Among other technologies we have the dashboard with three-dimensional images and an interactive HUD (Head-Up Display).

Another innovative concept is the BMW i8 Mirrorless. Although officials from Audi presented an Audi R8 a long time ago equipped with a digital mirror, which was applied on the LMP1 racing prototypes, the Bavarians came up with a little bit different idea. The concept based on the i8 production model has no mirrors at all.
Instead of mirrors aerodynamic cameras were housed that work together with a rear camera placed in the middle.

All three video cameras combine images into a single one on a 300x75 mm display, installed in place of the interior rearview mirror. This display captures more information than traditional mirrors. In this way practically all blind spots are excluded. More than this, the digital mirror will alert the driver with a flashing yellow icon if a faster car is coming and tries to make an overtake.

Another technology called Bumper Detect comes to detect those who hit the car in a crowded parking lot and tries to run away from the scene unpunished. Sensors pick up the contact and activate video cameras that record the culprit, and then send images to the mobile devices of the owner. The system detects even people who accidentally or intentionally hit the car. Thus, the perpetrators will not go unpunished.

The control elements are minimized. Three driving modes - Pure Drive (drive yourself), Assist (assistance systems actively intervene) and Auto Mode (automatic operation) - can be selected on the steering wheel.
Internet of Things is a new feature and it means a wider connection which facilitates new services and greater efficiency and comfort.
The Open Mobility Cloud technology has several functions that enhance connectivity between owner and car. For example, it "feels" when the owner has the keys in his hand, and give orders to the car exit the garage and park in front of the house.

The Gesture Control Parking system which works with a smart watch offers the possibility for the driver to exit the vehicle, and through gestures manage the car's parking, showing it exactly by how much to back up, how much to turn the wheels and when to stop.
