BMW with carbon fiber as the future of car
|   Friday, November 29, 2013
BMW has presented the future of car through their latest launch in their auto car show of BMW i3. BMW i3 is considered to be the first ever car to built with fully carbon fiber frame plus with electrically powered engine. BMW is best with the concepts they bring to market and for car's future. Whether the development be the technically rise or power and weight management of the car, BMW is always focuses on the present and future demands.

Generally auto car making brands invest on making a car more stylish and bringing changes to the engines and updating the car's technology.
But BMW is putting their bets on a factory of $100 million manufacturing white filament in rural Washington. These white filaments is stretched from its loop to a mile long strand, then it is toasted and scorched to black carbon fiber making a lightest and strongest fiber for a revolutionary drive in car manufacturing.

This fiber is thinner than hair and mightier than older star of car factories that is steel. Carbon fiber is a revolutionary for both future and present demands as now every car company is trying to move to electric side of car, so carbon fiber becomes a must ingredient for making the car very light. BMW has just stepped into the carbon fiber technology by selling its i3 model in Germany and it will launch BMW i3 in the first half of 2014 in US.

From this step of BMW its clears that they are thinking of long term production instead of competition. The carbon fibers are used and already are being used for making of F1 race cars. The idea of using carbon fiber comes from six years ago prediction of future and environment awareness of the company. As they try to move to electric mode for car then the car weight must be reduce radically to manage the force for driving the car, hence the solution is carbon fiber has reduced the weight of the car considerably.

But the drawback using the carbon fiber is that it cost more than steel, it may increase the price of the car. A carbon fiber car will cost more than steel or aluminum car as the production of carbon fiber may be limited and costly, but BMW is looking over the issue very seriously. In 2009 BMW went to a contract with Germany's SGL carbon manufacturing company for reducing price and modifying the use carbon fiber in their cars.

The i3 BMW car is using the carbon fiber and it weighs less than Nissans latest and biggest selling electric car. The battery of the car weighs a lot but as carbon fiber has reduced it so car can go to 100 miles per km of speed in just 7.2 seconds. However BMW is still working the cost problem, if it is sorted out than there will be very huge advantage of using electric cars. As, presently world is more interested towards using electric cars because of environment issues to consider.
