BMW Will Not Launch M7 In Near Future, But Reaffirms Commitment To New Models
|   Sunday, January 04, 2015
The BMW 7 Series will receive next year a new generation, but it will not get an M version, according to Americans from Motor Trend. The information comes directly from Paul Ferraiolo, head of product planning of the German brand, which motivates the absence of an M7 in range by weak demand for such a model.

Apparently, BMW believes that the Alpina model responds to those who want a M7 through the B7 model. This option is taken into consideration as the demand for M7 is too low to justify the development of a dedicated performance version of the future Series 7.
In contrast, the rivals from Mercedes-Benz and Audi, through their sports departments have started working for long time on this project in order to develop more efficient versions of their range flagships and these versions are on the market ever since the previous generation Series 7.

Some rumors even announced two years ago the M770ix existence of an M Performance version, but these were not confirmed by any official.
Ferraiolo says that regarding an M version for the BMW 7 Series which would compete with the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and S65 AMG: "We feel really good with what we've got with Alpina. The M adds sort of a track-element to that, and I don't know if there's a lot of demand for the 7 Series on the track."

However, the products offensive launched by BMW, a builder who has no problem to start from scratch in a new niche, is in full swing, says Ferraiolo, but the M7 is not part of it. As explained by the official BMW, the magnification range of products has the aim of developing a specific version of each model on offer, but also of building models that actually have a chance to be viable in the market. In addition, BMW has expressed high excitement about the collaboration with Alpina, a brand of its own, which makes their own versions of the Munich manufacturer's models.

But there are other positive news for fans of sports cars bearing the BMW logo, in that that the technology related to light body components used by i3 and i8 will be implemented for the series production car with conventional propulsion too. This means that those of BMW are preparing to build a car which does not belong to the "i" range but has body parts from carbon fiber, or plastic, reinforced with carbon fiber, even in standard equipment.

Those models are still far from showrooms though. But because of regulations, increasingly more stringent emission levels, the car manufacturers will be forced, including BMW, to look for solutions to make lighter cars on offer. From this point of view, the Munich manufacturer already has an advantage in that direction with a joint venture partnership in the United States, aimed at producing carbon fiber for cars.

And for those that think that BMW is going after too many rabbits it might be a good time to have a sorrowful drink, because Ferraiolo says "When, we see something that could work, we go after it, so, it's not something that has a finite ending, when we run out of numbers. The market is always evolving and we're always looking how we can exploit the market."
