BMW Vision Future Luxury: A Concept That Anticipates The Future 7 Series
|   Tuesday, April 22, 2014
BMW is paving the way for the next 7 Series luxury sedan generation through the concept Luxury Future Vision. Without being a mere reflection of the new BMW flagship, the prototype exhibited at the auto show in Beijing announces a full arsenal of technologies and innovations that will make their appearance gradually in Bavarian house's future models.

The bodywork is made of carbon fiber and light alloys, with an extravagant design with futuristic accents, laser headlights and OLED taillights, a lot of SF looking gadgets, as well as a revolutionary windshield, and an augmented reality promoter, are all elements that we find on the new 7 Series expected on the market in the second half of next year.

The BMW Vision Future Luxury was designed by a team under the direction of Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President of the BMW Group Design, who says this exhibit is one of the directions that BMW could go from the point of aesthetics in the coming years. The wheelbase is large, the wheels are located at the extremities of the vehicle and the ground clearance and height are reduced to ensure an impressive silhouette, difficult to achieve on a production car designed to highlight dynamism in its most refined form.

If the laser headlights are not a premiere, BMW was the first manufacturer to introduce this innovation into series production. OLED technology integrated into the taillights is an interesting surprise in the automotive world. OLEDs, or organic LED, are very thin semiconductors positioned between two electrodes. The resulting polymer emits light and has a thickness of 400 nanometers, which means it is 400 times thinner than a human hair. In addition, flexible OLEDs provide uniform illumination throughout the entire surface and provide wide dispersion of light.

The revolution continues inside too. The Head-Up Display, a particular display that you find on some series models of the German brand that is able to project clear images on the windshield, provides an augmented reality image for the driver of the BMW Vision Luxury Concept.

The system brings to the driver's attention important road signs, road hazards, and many other specific bits of information in order to simplify the flow of information: speed limits in the area, and for the first time, real-time data on the phases of traffic lights ahead. This function is difficult to imagine in the local traffic.

The driver has available a special touch panel through which he or front passenger can exchange information, reservations, and other settings. By using this system the driver's eyes can always stick to the road. For example, for the BMW Connected Drive system integration, the driver and front passenger may agree in real time on a command, thanks to the the tactile surface, but without the need to actually follow with their eyes topics such as ordering tickets to Opera, available via the brand's "Concierge" service, currently available only in some markets at the moment and only for certain models.

The rear seat passengers are often even more important than those sitting in front, especially when it comes to a luxury limousine. BMW offers them two displays support, mounted in carbon fiber, as well as and a removable tablet, all connected to the iDrive system and the arsenal of applications and systems BMW Connected Drive allows.
