BMW unveils the all new 520d GT
|   Friday, November 02, 2012
The BMW 520d Gran Turismo is the first vehicle in the BMW GT 5 series to be revamped and this marks a new generation of the GT series. The vehicles have improved features and provide better fuel efficiency along with a reduction in costs. Co2 emission rate at 139 g/km makes for a cleaner GT5 and this vehicle features a reduced Co2 emission of 34 g/km.

Fuel efficiency has also been increased by 9.8 g/km and the 2.0 liter Twin Power engine is still quite expensive to run.
The equipment standard in the vehicle is quite high and this is contemporary of any BMW. The BMW GT 5 series is a hot pick in the chauffeur market and the panoramic glass roof in the interior is quite a popular choice among customers.

Luggage storage has also been simplified with the help of the rear twin gate exit and hence as a result the luggage can be stored without having to enter the cabin. The price of the vehicle has been decreased by close to 9000 Pounds and this is the major reason for the increase in demand for the vehicle.

Conventionally, the BMW 520d GT is available with an overall better finish and trim level and is also cheaper than its predecessor as well as the other vehicles in the segment. This Touring vehicles has however been made heavier by almost 200 kg and as a result performance has decreased.
The vehicle features a great suspension system and as a result the vehicle feels more calm and composed as compared to its predecessors. A light weight engine is placed up front and as a result the overall weight of the vehicle has fallen by a margin. A Variable Damper Control is available for an additional 984 Pounds and this enhances the feel of the vehicle.

However, the suspension had scope for more refinement and the current one feels quite noisy and stiff at parts. The glass roof lends more space and enhances the feel of the area. The brakes used on the vehicle are hard enough and are perfectly for the conditions which the vehicle has to face.
The body roll has been decreased by a fair amount and as a result the driver must be careful at sharp corners and excess speed. A considerable amount of wheel spin is also present although the turbo lag has been reduced. Interior space is high and as a result there is ample leg and head room.

Priced at 39,905 Pounds, the 520d GT is good value for money. The vehicle has a tested top speed of 132 MPH and acceleration to 60 MPH from 0 MOH comes in around 8.9 seconds. With a combined economy figure of 53.3 MPG, the 520d GT is the perfect vehicle for daily use.

This BMW 5 series vehicle is however not a benchmark setter when it comes to handling and overall performance. However, this vehicle features a high level of comfort and as a result; it is a great chauffeur driven vehicle.
