BMW Tests New M4 GT4 at Nurburgring
|   Tuesday, June 13, 2017
Any enthusiast of hundreds of horsepower under the hood knows some information about the BMW M4, one of the most well-known models in the German manufacturer's performance division portfolio. Benefiting from a more interesting past in the world of motorsports, it was a pity that BMW would not turn this coupe into a track model. Well, this is how the new BMW M4 GT4 appeared, a competitive model which is positioned between BMW M235i Racing and BMW M6 GT3.

According to statements by representatives, the new M4 GT4 is a mix between a series M4 Coupe and a MTS GTS. Why is that you ask? Well, because the new M4 GT4 has taken over a number of elements from the exclusive M4 GTS, such as a bonnet made of carbon fiber or doors made of a low weight alloy. At the same time, BMW specialists have equipped the new model with a series of aerodynamic elements on the exterior kit.

Being a model for the track, it benefits from the use of adjustable springs, race stabilizers, and Ohlins sporting shock absorbers. The new BMW M4 GT4 also features an adjustable rear spoiler. The exhaust has also been modified, now having a much lower weight, and the exhaust sound is totally different from what we knew so far.

Thus, this model is distinguished by a front spoiler and rear aileron, which will develop a larger compressive force, 18-inch wheels, shod in Hankook tires, type slick, adjustable suspension Ohlins , AP Racing braking system with 390 mm disc brakes and 6-piston caliper on the front axle, and 350 mm brake discs and four-piston calipers on the rear axle, a protective cage, a shell seat and a series of carbon fiber elements to reduce weight.

If on the outside, this version is more or less the same as the street model, then the interior is completely different, reminiscent of the McLaren P1 GTR inside.

Going to the most interesting part, we can say that the BMW M4 GT4 is equipped with an in-line engine with 6 cylinders displacing 3.0 liters, twin turbo, meaning it is practically unchanged, developing the same power as the standard model - 431 hp. Transmission is ensured through a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches.

What is really interesting is that the M4 GT4 can benefit from several levels of power, however those have not been communicated by BMW sadly. These will allegedly be easily activated by mechanics, depending on the conditions on the track and taking into account several external factors.

BMW's new track model has already been tested for a considerable distance, so far no less than 20,000 kilometers. However, the real challenge will come when the M4 GT4 debuts at the BMW Sport Trophy on the 24-hour Nurburgring race.

But until the official debut we still have something to expect - this being scheduled for next year. The new BMW M4 GT4 will debut in the 24-hour race in Dubai, which will take place in January 2018. The racing car, which is produced manually by BMW Motorsport specialists, can already be ordered at a starting price of 169,000 euro.
