|   Friday, September 06, 2013
BMW has been working effortlessly on its I Series concept vehicles for the past couple of years although the final production version of the vehicles are finally ready to be unveiled. The BMW i8 plug in sports hybrid is scheduled to be showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show and the company has teased the vehicle for the final time prior to the fateful day.

The latest teaser video had been revealed to enhance the excitedly and build up a steady hype around the vehicle and the strategy has paid off effortlessly.
The i8 is one of the most talked about vehicles at the moment. Although nothing remotely similar to the final version has been showcased in the teaser, although minor details such as the vertical lifting doors, tail lamp design, side mirrors, Daytime Running Lamps etc have been revealed.

The BMW i8 is the second vehicle to emerge from the house of BMW post the successful launch of the i3. The i3 however was a complete electric vehicle while the i8 is a hybrid sports car. Even though they sport their differences, the BMW I Series have their range of similarities. Pricing for example is a common factor as both vehicles sport a premium price tag.

The BMW i8 for example is expected to be priced close to the $100,000 mark even though the company is yet to officially confirm this news. The drive train consists of a three cylindered gasoline engine mated to an electric motor. The engine is capable of displacing 362 BHP on a combined scale along with 420 ft lb of torque. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible under 4.5 seconds while BMW claims that the i8 will sport a top speed of 155 MPH.

Without on road tests having been performed, the car is expected to return close to 95 MPG, although the final figures are yet to be established. The i8 is based on the advanced Premium Lightweight Architecture and this makes the vehicle extremely dynamic and light weight. The power to weight ratio is the most dynamic in the range and this makes the i8 one of the most powerful in its class.

The vehicle is perfectly streamlined and aerodynamic while a total weight of 3285 pounds ensures that the vehicle is at par with most sports cars in class. The BMW i8 is surely set to be a class leader although it has no proper competitor at the time. The BMW i8 Hybrid should not be compared to the i8 Spyder showcased at the Beijing Motor Show late last year as both vehicles share no similarities in terms of drive train and performance.

The range of differences also makes the i8 one of the class leaders. The rear wheel drive train is also one of the most important aspects of any sports car and BMW has ensured that the i8 has the appeal of a sports car, even with its high fuel efficiency and hybrid power train. Overall, this is a highly efficient and potentially powerful sports vehicle.
