BMW Showcases their Refined X4 SUV at the New York Motor Show
|   Wednesday, April 23, 2014
BMW has revealed their much awaited X4 at the New York Motor Show and this vehicle is rumored to be based on their current generation X3, with refinement placed on a whole new level. The X4 becomes the fifth dedicated SUV model from BMW to enter their lineup and various similarities can be seen with their concept model showcased at Shanghai last year.

Junior to the BMW X6, this vehicle plans on capturing a large section of the society, with its premium quality interior, refinement and luxury levels.
We are expecting a formal launch in the United Kingdom by mid July, while featuring a range of UK specific engine options. Prices for the xDrive20d SE starts at £36,590, while the xDrive 30d xLine starts at £44,890. The range topping xDrive35d M Sport is priced at £48,990.

Following up the success of their X6, the X4 is here to tame a certain section of global markets. This is an affordable SUV, designed to appeal to mass markets around the globe. Buyers can look for sporty traits, along with the practicality of an estate, coupled with ride height and versatility of an SUV. Overall, this is a complete package, designed to take on Land Rover's Evoque and Porsche's Macan.

The Macan has reached 50,000 sales on a global platform, even before reaching showrooms, as initially expected. If BMW successfully launches their X4, the Macan will be up for some tough competition. As showcased on their Concept X4, the production variant is heavily inspired from its elder sibling – X6 – and both share similar silhouette and five door layout. Differences in overall mechanical and technical specifications have been recorded, although the X4 shares basic peripherals with BMW's X3.
BMW has plans to replace their current generation X6 with the X5 next year, although we are not quite sure of its specifications at this moment. Front end styling on the X4 is inspired buy their face lifted X3, which features LED Daytime Running Lights, modified bumper and grille. Deeper air intake and cooling ducts are also in place, along with a contoured bonnet serve and kidney grille.

Their xDrive30d draws power from a six cylindered 3.0 liter turbo charged engine, displacing 254 BHP along with 413 ft lb of torque, while the xDrive35d will be getting the same engine, supped up to displace 307 BHP along with 465 ft lb of torque. Expected acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH should be possible within 5.2 seconds, while sporting a top speed of 153 MPH, for its top spec variant.

Further engine variants are likely, although insiders are tightlipped about this situation for now. Multi link rear suspension is in place, with firmer dampers and strut settings. A standard electro mechanical steering system takes care of most vibrations, while an electronic torque vectoring system keeps track of constant power delivery. 17 or 18 inch rims are available as standard, although we would like to see 20 inch rims, providing a meaner and more aggressive stance. Watch this space for more.
