BMW ready to launch the all new 3 Series
|   Sunday, November 04, 2012
The all new BMW 3 series has finally made its international debut at the Paris International motor Show 2012 and the first vehicle to be showcased was the 330d. The vehicle provided the first opportunity for testing the new series and the drive test proved the mettle of the vehicle.

The 330d has two separate drive train options ranging from a sixth generation BMW 3 series engine and two four cylindered 2.0 liter turbo charged petrol engines – the 320d, producing 181 BHP and the 328i producing 242 BHP.

Smaller engines based on the same platform are set to be launched and the engines currently in the designing stages are the 316d, 320i and the 318d producing 114 BHP, 181 BHP and 141 BHP respectively. These drive train options will be available on the BMW F30 sedan currently under production and the true girth of the engines will be tested hence.

The 330d is a high end luxury machine just below the top end model and is priced effectively at 37,200 Pounds. The 330d has a host of options available like the rear folding automated seats and the space ratio fixed at 40:20:40, front and rear parking sensors and cameras and an electric boot space that can be increased.

The sound proofing has been done effectively and the cabin does not feature any external sound when the windows are pulled up. The engine vibrations and sound do not enter the cabin and once inside, you are cut off from the entire world outside.

Torque production and power generation has been increased to match the production capability of the 530d estate and this is quite effective on the 330d as it is a sedan and this power generation does wonders for the machine. Peak torque is available around 4,000 BHP and the maximum power output is available around 3,000 BHP.

The 330d also features a weight drop of 10 kg and the eight-speed automatic transmission system is the reason behind the drop in weight. Fuel consumption and CO2 emission have improved and the 330d accelerates from 0 – 60 mph in 0.7 seconds less than the previous 3 series.

The 330d features the new start / stop technology and the single clutch transmission make the vehicle easy to drive in heavy traffic conditions. The engine is so refined it makes a subtle sound even when pushed to its limits and the engine is perfect for cruising.

The bass centric but ruffled noise of the engine provides the perfect tempo. Braking has also been enhanced and the ceramic disk calipers available on the vehicle bring down the stopping range to a bare 20 meters from speeds of over 100 mph.

The twin scroll turbo chargers reduce the turbo lag by a considerable margin and hence the throttle response is enhanced and the 330d is quite comfortable to ride on asphalt. The vehicle glides over small bumps and the suspension has been tweaked to minimize excessive bumps even while cruising at high speeds. The vehicle will first be available in Europe and then travel across other continents.
